Came into a whole bunch of shells but don't currently own one. Might be a good grouse gun so not looking for anything too expensive. How does the 16ga work on grouse? Better/Worse or negligible compared to say a 20ga?

Thx

I like my 16. Pretty much a matter of personal preference. I hunt in heavy cover so like the extra punch of a 16 without the weight of packing a 12. You have to pay attention, depending on where you live, as the shells are not as commonly available as 12 and 20 ga. For example the 100 count boxes you can pickup in 20 and 12 ga. at CT or similar outlet are not available. That is the only downside that comes to mind.

The 16 was quite popular in my youth( a long time ago) for grouse/rabbits and ducks.I picked up a Remington 870 youth in 16 guage this spring and outfitted it with Hogue full size stocks. The only thing I've shot with it so far is 2 rounds of trap (2 X 23's). Looking forward to getting out this fall for some grouse and maybe hit a game farm for some pheasants. My local Canadian Tire has a good selection of 16 guage shells and slugs. They are a bit more expensive than 12 or 20 guage shells. Check your local gunshops for used guns and likely something will turn up.
