All, maybe you can help me out. I am looking for a smal shoulder bag. My brother in law has one, it is heavy cotton, green in color. His bag I am sure is an ex military bag. He uses is during hunting season to carry around his calls, compass, etc...

His is approx 6 to 8" wide, about 9" tall and maybe 4 inches deep. It has a lid that covers of the front by about 1" or so. The sides of the back have Heavy D rings on them connecting to a shoulder strap.

It resembles this, but his is smaller than this.

Anyone know what they are called, and where I can get one. ? is it an old map bag? or messenger bag? muskette bag?

I'll try and get pics of his this coming weekend.

The pictures are of a commercial replica of what is known as a 'small pack'. They can be had nearly everywhere sporting goods are sold. Saying they're handy is an understatement.
A smaller one could be anything though. Commercial or milsurp. Armies everywhere use and used a plethora of load carrying devices. Mag pouches, grenade bags, gas mask bags, etc, etc. All of 'em make great 'stuff' bags for hunting.

I got mine at a gunshow for $5 a few years ago. I use it alot!

lildave, you know what would be really cool. Is if you had some tanned deer hides kicking around and took them to a leather worker (we call them saddle makers out west), along with your picture and got him to make you one. You just gave me a great idea buddy, thanks. Oh....and good luck to you.

Guys thanks for the info !

Super Cub, that is almost ( if not ) the same as the one I am talking about. What are the dimensions on that one?

gitrdun - you just gave me an idea too ! now all I have to do is get a deer this year ! I have a distant family relative out in BC that is a native, that uses deer hides to makes clothes etc.... she wants us to send our hides out there this year.

I really need to get one, I hate carrying stuff in my coat pockets ! damn velcro makes way too much noise. and its tooo hard to get at the stuff, and its always swooshing around as you walk,...you guys know what I am talking about.

Anyone have a spare bag like super cubs?

Anyone have a bag like supercubs that they are not using ?.....

I would really like to find one, any help would be great. There are no milsurp stores around ottawa anymore, and I really don't want the newer commercial ones available.

Dave

They are out of circulation now, but many years ago I got a WWII Canadian Army gas mask bag and in my tavelling years that bag travelled with me through Europe, Africa, parts of Asia and Central America with my camera and various other personal items tucked into the various slots and partitions in it.

Heck, I even used it hunting to pack lunches and livers!

Haven't seen one for ages, even among the WWII gear for sale at gun shows.

saw some at LeBarons in early Oct this year. Can't remember where in Ottawa the store was but I was only a tourist. I believe they are called Musset(te?) bags, and they were made by World Famous

Here is what I'm thinking of getting made. There is a Hutterite colony nearby with a real top notch saddle and leather working shop. Prices are also very reasonable.
