I just bought sight unseen a LH Model 70. Unknown was the fact it had a Timney trigger. Not what I wanted. I have all the necessary OEM trigger assembly parts but the cocking piece looks to have been modified to reduce the angle. Can I make this work? I have put the OEM parts on, but the trigger pull is horrendous.

Any insight as to what could be done here? Thanks a bunch.

Does the safety work? If so, the cocking piece isn't too messed up. The over ride angle is mostly on the sear. The horrible trigger pull is probably unrelated and is just a function of the the sear engagement/angle on the Winchester parts. While I'm not a super-fan of the Timney trigger on a Model 70, the trigger function is often quite good and, unlike the factory trigger, the Timney is FULLY adjustable.

I have put the OEM parts on, but the trigger pull is horrendous.

Details on "horrendous"... too much creep, too heavy?

Is the trigger return spring tension as light as you can go?

Is there a little trigger over travel in the fired position?

Sounds like those parts need a working over... is it good enough with the Timney?

Sometimes a light polishing of the sears and a lighter spring can make a difference without causing a safety problem... usually 70 triggers adjust without these problems you have...

If you have an extra sear, swap that out and see what happens. Failing that, bring it by and, if I can't fix it in twenty minutes, I don't deserve to own a screwdriver. Mind you, this can't happen until after the silhouette nationals :).
