Guys i needa light one!
i would try sell the LH Abolt 30-06 to fund another Left handed gun in either 30 cal , but whats realistically a lighter outfit than what it is..... what it is, is just too heavy. from memory it is in the 4kg bracket. AboltII with a zeiss terra 3-9x42 n QD rings............

Tikkas about it ay? no where near as neat of a gun but practicality....

You talking a production rifle or custom ??
Montana and Kimber had some sub 5kg in their line ups at one time.
A-bolt Mountain Ti (titanium) in 243 / 5pounds 5 ounces but likely not in leftie and no longer in production.
With a Leupold compact with aluminum rings you might touch 6kgd loaded, but going from memory on what was out there at one time.
Good Hunting.

A stock tikka with aluminum rings and a light 3-9x40mm will put you at about 7.5lbs. I believe browning used to make some of their xbolts in a left handed model (hunter model if I remember correctly). Tikka are great though, can't go wrong.

I've always thought the Abolt felt like a club, not just the weight but the weight distribution and fit of the stock. You can save about a pound (1/2 kilo) by going to the Tikka or xbolt. The xbolt in short action is lighter than the long action. I think those are your lightest options in a factory rifle. Sometimes you can find deals on a used custom built rifle but that might not be an option where you are. Adding a lightweight Mcmillan or Wildcat will just about double the cost of the rifle.
Good luck

Not if you’re handy and finish the wildcat yourself. By the look of whelenlads rattle can kimber I don’t doubt he cares more about function than form :)

Likely the same weight or heavier than the abolt, with poor balance due to club like stock and pencil barrel.

I know your pain man. I switched to lefty last year, and I spent quite some time trying to figure out a lightweight rifle because Kimber doesn't make lefties (otherwise I would have bought a Kimber Hunter and called it a day).

The Tikka is the best option I could find. A Tikka Lite isn't an ultralight like a Kimber, but its notably lighter than an Xbolt or Remington 700, and if you really want to get fancy you could look into an aftermarket stock that can drop the weight even more. That said, when I started a thread like this last year someone pointed out they had a 700 that was put on a diet, and it weighs just shy of 6lbs without an optic. Post 41 below:

I ended up picking up a Rem 700 youth in 7mm08 that has already been put into a B&C stock. I'm hoping to have the funds to put her on a diet one day, new stock, new barrel, some work to the action and bolt to lighten things up... Right now its not a light rifle, weighs over 8lbs, might even be over 8.5 with the sling and a few rounds of ammo in the mag.

Yeah damn hey, rock and a hard spot kind of!

there is the odd LH tikka t3s here, i quizzed one wood stock t3x 3006 last night but wants to sell the package. may have to just bite it..

i have thought about going custom if i can just find a lefty action that isnt super heavy/ or just buying something left hand action and puttin a custom thin barrel on it? i found with the Abolt particularly, the Bolt itself is 70% of the total weight lol... the guns feel awesome until you put the bolt in..

savage pop up here n there but expensive down here for good models nd not keen on edge/axis.

savage lh action tho, thin barrel, plastic stock... its a bit better than the abolt!

i will keep trawling the sales pages, i would spend a bit i rekon for the right one, as the Abolt come in on a steal for $500... it can go for $500... an i rekon i could ditch one more easily. 7rm.

il have to check out the X bolt an see how much lighter per say, because i could get by with a 308..

agree with the stock makin double price minimal difference, i read the abolt stock is 26oz, an BnC was heavy as. though i wonder if thre is something in terms of stripping the Bolt and drilling holes in thru it, laugh at me not. ive seen an article where this was done to a ruger m77 , crazy lighter outcome.

i have some mates real into the fitting and turning etc, i rekon it is an option here!?

the Bolt itself is 70% the total weight, yeah!?

The ruger American weighs the same as a tikka t3 and shots almost as well, even better with some loads. I don't love the mags but they work quite well for the most part. Stocks are flimsy but can be stiffened. Triggers are actually quite nice when cleaned up a bit and remove the accutrigger blade.

If you want light, NULA makes left handed rifles. With light weight optics, you should be able to have it scoped and loaded and still come in6lbs or less.

But if you want light, you really need a pencil barrel (not a standaes sporter barrel contour) or carbon fibre barrel, hog as much weight out of your bolt and action as you can by having it fluted/skeletonized and finally, throw a carbon fibre stock or something like a Wildcat Customs ultralight stock on it.
