Many months (years?) ago I heard about left hand short action Ruger rifles comming to the stores near you this year. Does anybody know something about it or was it a rumour? I wouldn't mind SS one in 358 Win, 20" barrel and quality laminated stock.

I asked the local shop to order me one in the spring. Still waiting, it seems it is always in the next shipment. I was looking at the blue / walnut 7mm-08 myself. Funny I was considering rebarreling to the 358. I don't think it is offered in that calibre.

on rugers web site they list a bunch of lh sa hawkeye rifles, the best way to get one is through a ruger rep. I ordered mine in feb and got it in july.

I just received my lh SS Lam. Stock Ruger Hawkeye in .375 Ruger from Prophet River. Really enjoying this gun! Not a .358, but hey, it ain't that far off. The gray laminate/stainless is very nice and it's the same length action as a .30-06, which is one of the design features of the .375 Ruger cartridge.

Your earlier posts/photos helped me make my decision to buy (thanks :)). To answer your question, I'm very happy with how it shoots. It's only 2" longer than a Winchester 94 (30-30) so it carries very well in the bush. Recoil is what I read it to be - a slow, heavy thud. About as heavy as the Tikka T3 Lite 300WM I had but not as sharp/violent. The stainless/laminate is very nice IMO.

I've found a good hunting load using Hornady 225gr SP over 75.0gr IMR 3031. Three shots touching at 50m; over 3000fps MV (around 4500ft/lbs). Just received my 235gr Barnes TSX from mysticplayer and will work up loads for those soon. Have reloaded a handful of cases 2x and have not had to trim yet. I've never seen factory 375 Ruger ammo in stores but if it's consistent with other 375 cartridges it would be $4-5/round for premium hunting loads. I'm loading my own for $1/round with Hornady bullets, and a little over $1 with Barnes. Definitely a plus to handloading with this caliber.

Going to take it to Africa in late December :) It might be a bit much for smaller plains game so I'll have the 30-06 and 30-30 along as well. The 375 will be used for Kudu and both blue & black Wildebeest.
