The rifle is basically a stock LH 270 Win. with trigger and safety work, Williams bottom metal, Williams extractor, the barrel has been cut to 23", and of course the Legend stock in graphite. With 5 rounds in the magazine it balances dead center of the front guard screw. It weighs 8 lbs 3.1 oz's.

Those stock are made by McMillan for D'Arcy Echols. He built it in wood and McMillan made a mould. You need to contact him to get them. They run about $400 for fiberglass and $500 for graphite (about a pound lighter). It will need work though including studs, pad, paint, and the bolt notch and ejection port will need to be cut out. That will pretty much double the price. IMO though worth it and I think it is the best synthetic stock on the market.

Those are sure some nice clean lines. While my taste in sporting rifles runs toward walnut and blue steel, I would rather have a rifle like that than something like, say, a Weatherby Mark V with a wood stock and a lot of unattractive styling features.

I am currently shooting a Ruger 77mk II stainless in 30-06 but I am finding it heavy with the lam stock. Thinking of maybe selling it to buy a leftie model 70. Seem to be much more popular than the Ruger but pricier too. Wondering if there would be much of a difference in weight. The Ruger weighs a ton by the end of a walking day.

Over 1lb of weight, I have owned both Ruger and M70 sporter.

The laminated stock adds the real weight. A Ruger 77 MkII is about 6-8oz heavier than a similarly stocked Mdl 70.

Laminated stocks are heavier than synthetic or wood.
