The Liberals are turning the migratory bird hunting stamps program into a money grab, taking more fees from hunters and directing that revenue away from wetlands protection and into the coffers of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

Someone has to pay for Catherine McKenna’s glamour photos and enormous staff, and the Liberals have chosen Canadian water-fowlers.

Up until now, the money from licensing had been split equally between the federal government and actual conservation activities, with half the money going to Environment and Climate Change Canada and the other half going to Wildlife Habitat Canada.

However, under newly introduced rules, the hunting license money will be weighted in favour of Environment and Climate Change Canada.

For a bunch of environmentalists, the Liberals sure don't seem to care about actual preservation of the environment.

Maybe you aren’t a hunter and think the wetlands are just a mosquito factory, but surely we can all disagree with the Liberals’ efforts to turn a self-sustaining, self-funding Canadian heritage activity into what seems like a cash grab.

The Liberals saw a group of people minding their own business, paying their own way, and managing their own sustainable activity, and decided to "fix" what wasn't broken.
 
Oh FFS, the price of the stamp should be raised as it was too cheap today...BUT, the splitting of the money should NOT change, if anything the extra money made from the increase should be weighted towards Habitat Canada. Climate change, Liberal code for "fill your pockets boys!" Oh. Pardon me, "people".:bangHead:
 
I fork out a lot of cash to buy all the tags I buy. Any increase is a sting, maybe I don't buy that extra deer tag this year. A price increase will discourage some, and will be a barrier to entry for newbs. Less people hunting an increase in tag prices is a must they want to keep the same cash flow coming in. If anything if there were more people waterfowling you probably wouldn't have seen an increase. If I wear tin foil maybe they want people out of this game altogether and it's just a ploy to chip away at us. As always gotta pay to play!
 
What nonsense. The price increase compensates somewhat for inflation.
All the money from the stamp goes to Wildlife Habitat Canada.
The licence cost is a fraction of the expenditure on the waterfowl program, the rest coming from general revenue.
Find somewhere else to start a stupid rant.
 
I spend way, WAY more on fuel just scouting for waterfowl so the raise in price of the stamp isn't concerning me much. However the fact that the libtards are paying for their own bloated goobermint using those funds is of great concern and should be to any conservative waterfowler.
 
I read the bull#### in the (email?) asking for feedback. I told them I'll just buy a duck in the store and save my money. I hardly have to time to get out as it is. Any increases just make it not worth it to me. If I actually knew my money was going to conservation and not pockets I would be more inclined to get the stamp.

Hunting is for people of a better class. We can't have commoners hunting now can we?

its only going up $2 isn't it? Since its been the same price for as long as I can remember, I'm sure not going to get excited over the price of a coffee. I do agree that the money should go back to conservation efforts however.

No doubt. It's unbelievable how many people go off on something and become emotional without looking at the facts. Sounds awfully familiar for us gun nutz, eh?




Drivers for Service Fee Increases

Fees and fee revenue have not kept pace with increasing costs
Fees associated with the Conservation Stamp have not increased since 1991; as such, their
contribution to the conservation of wetlands and migratory bird habitat has diminished over time.
It is estimated that the real value of the Stamp has decreased over 50% since 1991, reducing
conservation benefits.
Fees associated with the Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit have not increased since 1998.
Current revenue from the Permit covers only about 27% of the cost of Canadian Wildlife Service
activities associated with administering the migratory bird hunting program. It also fails to
recover costs associated with recent measures to improve services and provide additional
benefits for hunters, such as efforts to enable online permit and stamp sales.
If the fees had kept pace with inflation, the total cost of the Stamp and Permit since the last
increases in these fees would the equivalent of $27.66 in 2021. This is calculated using the
Bank of Canada Inflation Calculator and using a forecast of 2.1% from the Conference Board of
Canada:
 The $8.50 Stamp in 1991 is the equivalent of $13.32 in 2017 and $14.47 in 2021.
 The $8.50 Permit in 1998 is the equivalent of $12.14 in 2017 and $13.19 in 2021.



The price hasn't increased since 1998. Twenty years without an increase and people still have the nerve to complain and call this a money grab? License sales have dropped dramatically with over 100,000 fewer licenses being sold last year than in 1998. So that's 100,000 fewer hunters buying licenses and chipping into the money pool while costs of the program have continued to increase over those years. I'm surprised we're not paying 2-3x the current license cost.


We're getting a bargain. Nobody can complain about this one.
