Liberals hike migratory bird hunting fees in “cash grab” that hurts environment

I wouldn't worry too much about a fee increase, they also just passed a bill set up to eventually take all guns out of our hands period in due time including semi auto shotguns for sure.
If we're going to get our hackles up about something.....

The only reason people are upset about an increase in something is because they dont understand the activity it is supposed to support.
Especially when the information is taken out of context when provided by clipping and pasting from the internet.
Part of being a practicing wildlife conservationist.
Canadian Hunter312, thanks for the inflation rate , especially as it is in context with the activity and costs associated.
Yes travis bickle your correct too...

I hope you're trolling

Nope, we're all familiar wit C71...just thought something new come over the horizon. Pretty lame bunch of Liberal crap that basically overlaps existing firearms legislation. But do remember this idiot in office now has put the owness on the RCMP to make laws regarding our firearms. Nice smooth move seeing that C-68 was a train wreck that had a big part wiping the Liberals off the political map...along with its quebec chapter that should have all ben put in jail..including the PM. Cops make legislation and enforce it, Called a police state in my vocabulary. 71 is a testing ground where a small number of firearms will be banned outright. This would be great as if I had a banned firearm I'd tell the pricks to come and take it from me.

Zero interest in ever hunting waterfowl again, period.
They took away lead shot and the rest iS history.
Here in AB the ducks are long gone, and the geese are a tuff chew on a good day.
I can buy a perfectly grown/dressed/plucked 3lb duck at no frills any day of the week for $10.
And the quality is exceptional - and I am an accomplished chef,,,,not a grill farmer...
Shoot a wild one and it's $100 a bird or maybe a little less with all the hassle, licences, ammo, decoys, camosuits, ridiculous fruity camo shotguns, fuel and BS....
Prepare it anyway you prefer (Peking I choose) and why waste the money to obtain/enjoy duck any other way.
Go shoot clays if shotguns turn you on....but for plate quality fowl - those days are LONG GONE....

Probably still needed for migratory game birds. Not sure though.

Either way, anyone who complains about this needs to chill the fk out. The increases don't even match inflation, not by a long shot. Compare the amount of hunting one can do on a migratory bird license to anything else and it's a steal (unless all you want to do is small game hunt, that's really cheap in BC too)

Maybe in your parts... But here, you can get ducks or geese from October to early March, over 5 months of the year. That's a lot of hunting opportunity for a few measly dollars - spend more on shot in a day than the license costs...

Feds should have 0% on the sale let alone be selling through canada post. Over the last decade probably every year i need to hit a secound store as they are sold out with the worst being 4 stores before I could even find one. Whole set up is poorly done, the licence should be purchased where you purchase ALL your other licences and the funds to management not this bs.

Its available online. Super easy, can print it off right away. That's the preferred method now actually, they're adding an extra fee for the hard copy. Even with that fee its not up to pace with inflation, so I'd say it's still a reasonable price.

New for Saskatchewan during the 2018 Spring Snow Goose Season (Starting Apr 1) on top of having the Migratory Stamp you’ll be required to have a 2018 Sask Gamebird License ($20) and a Sask Wildlife Habitat License ($15).

Of course in Ontario it is about scooping funds for another purpose:

Local MPP’s bill to control Ontario hunting fund shot down

A London-area MPP’s proposed bill to tighten rules about how the government spends money generated from hunting and licensing fees has been shot down at Queen’s Park.
Progressive Conservative MPP Jeff Yurek on Wednesday introduced a private members bill to beef up spending requirements surrounding the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s so-called special purpose account (SPA), a fund that collects nearly $75 million annually from licensing fees paid by anglers and hunters in Ontario.
The money is supposed be spent on wildlife management and to improve angling and hunting across the province, but the handling of the fund has come under fire in recent years for a lack of transparency and questionable expenditures.
The bill was rejected Thursday — just hours after a Southwestern Ontario group representing hunters and anglers applauded the proposed legislation, calling it long overdue.
“It has flown under the radar for long enough,” Ken Currah, director of the Aylmer Stakeholders Committee, said of the fund.

Troubling details about how the fund was used emerged after the Aylmer group — representing 1,400 Southwestern Ontario landowners, hunters and farmers — applied for $10,000 to evaluate deer populations in the Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford wildlife zone.
The organization was denied its appeal, prompting it to file a freedom-of-information request to get the details of how the fund was being spent.
After years of delay, the ministry turned over a list of expenditures for 2011-2012. Included on this list was $65,000 to buy and sell a house, $4,000 for rental accommodations and $12,251 for psychologists.
Yurek, who represents Elgin-Middlesex-London, said the fund’s lack of transparency had been on his radar since he was elected in 2011.
At one point, the ministry had fallen five years behind publishing its annual report on the fund, Yurek said.
“That raised red flags at the time then,” Yurek said. “They are caught up with this annual report, but it is not detailed, it is broad.”
The proposed bill would have streamlined how the fund is paid out to ensure the money goes to fish and wildlife management, and created an advisory committee and avenue for hunters and anglers to inquire about expenditures, Yurek said.
Knowing private members bills from opposition politicians don’t have a good track record of becoming law, Yurek said it was important to raise the issue ahead of Ontario’s June election.
The ministry previously defended the spending from the special account, saying staff salaries and benefits for staff performing fish and wildlife management activities are paid from the account.
“They’re using the fund to backfill a shortage elsewhere,” Currah said, adding that licensing fees paid by hunters and anglers keep going up, while less money seems to be spent on wildlife projects.
“We need that SPA fund to be used in the right way to benefit anglers and hunters.”

So if nobody buys a license to hunt, DO ALL THE CO's get fired as there is no income from the rate increase to pay them?
