Liberals invoke S.39, refuse to provide evidence

Today, Bruce Hughson of the Department of Justice forwarded a notice to the Federal Court concerning our case against the Attorney General of Canada. The notice is to inform the court that the government has invoked Section 39 of the Canada Evidence Act. This is an action that the Clerk of the Privy Council can take to "make secret" any materials the government doesn't want the public to see. This puts the materials, in this case the government's evidence, beyond the reach of anyone, even the courts. Supposedly, this sweeping power is exercised when the material is so sensitive, it is against the public interest to disclose it.

READ THE NOTICE HERE

The certificate invoking S. 39 was signed by the Interim Clerk of the Privy Council, Janice Charette. Keep in mind, in late May, Judge Gagne ordered the government to provide its evidence to her alone, not the public. She would then evaluate if the materials were too sensitive for public disclosure. It appears that the government believes the evidence they used to ban up to a million firearms owned exclusively by licensed gun owners is too secret (or dangerous) to have even a federal judge view it.

Many questions come to mind. What is in the government's evidence that's so secret or such a danger to national security that even the Associate Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada can't see it? What could it possibly be? Could it be that the government has no evidence at all, and the prohibition is simply a political wedge issue to divide Canadians and secure urban votes? If so, what an incredibly corrupt use of government power that would be. Why wouldn't the government just deal fairly with gun owners? We aren't criminals, we haven't done anything to deserve this.

Regardless, this isn't the worst thing to happen to our case. Our team will ask the Judge to make an "adverse inference" against the government to the effect that whatever it is they are hiding would either hurt their case or at very least not help them. This has the potential to significantly damage their ability to defend.

Either way, this has become typical of the bad faith dealings of the Liberal Government of Justin Trudeau, Bill Blair & David Lametti the new Attorney General. "Open and transparent government", and "fact-based policy making" they said...

We all know that their evidence is exactly zero...they know it too of course.

They will use any dirty trick in the book to slip out of that one.
We are dealing with globalist psychopaths unfortunatelly.

I thought my blood pressure was high before reading this. If there is anyone in Canada still thinking the OIC was born out anything but a desire to see an end to private gun ownership in Canada=take note. This is PURE political meddling, arguably, illegal. An "OIC" is not really a policy creating tool to begin with, let alone, to bring in (what amounts to) sweeping legislation without a shred of democratic process.

Democracy=a hurdle the Liberals have no use for. How INCREDIBLY disgusting.

Like my dad used to say about some people; "he doesn't let the truth stand in the way of a good story"

I am not surprised. The libs want what they want and are prepared to do anything to get their way. This is very typical behaviour of the left.

This we all suspected/knew from the beginning.

There is nothing secret on this public matter. There is nothing so sensitive that it cannot be produced for the eyes of the judge only.
Therfore it is clear the lieberals never had anything solid justifying such unprecedented theft of property.

Lies and deceits will fire back at them. Pun intended.

The turd is a failure. All he did so far is a succession of failures and scandals. This will be another one.

Well done so far Team Hipwell, keep on plowing.

Well most guns banned are based on AR15 platforms. No one in Canada has been killed by a registered AR.

Then the libs cherry picked a couple of semis used in a shooting somewhere over the last 5 decades and added .50 BMG and .460 WBY to the list (like wtf ?).

So all in all they are spending millions to ban legal guns that were used to kill propably less than 30 people over 40 years.

Even by a liberal logic you would save more lives in a single summer by banning swimming pools.

No surprise they have nothing to show for.

Yeah, and owners of CZ scorpions, a gun that isn’t as common in Canada as many of the other firearms on the list, magazines capped at 5 rounds, 9mm nonetheless, and never used in a mass shooting are left shaking their heads wondering “what the actual fvck?”. Some cow at the coalition for gun control put it in a memo to the government because it looked scary and *poof* added to the list.

'Statistically, an AR-15 is much less likely to be involved in a crime than a Liberal Member of Parliament......'

Ahem, looking at you Mr. PM with three CONVICTIONS....And those are just what you've been caught for !

What's disgusting is they are so corrupt and scandal ridden they are using this approach to everything. Cover up, ignore and prevent any dialogue or open discussion. We charity, covid spending, bill c10 and this
