After the Danforth shootings...I've learned not to trust politicians, media, or the police. Anyone who commits a crime with a gun outside of being a white male is immediately labelled mentally ill and is in need of care, coddling and public funding.
The above mentioned groups immediately reach for the low hanging fruit of the legitimate gun owner to provide a panacea for the interests of preserving the public good regardless of how corrupted the optics are of this.
Trudeau and Goodale have the blood of those girls on their hands and they are looking for a quick fix to remove it.

Would there be flaw in my logic in thinking that any measure of tightening on availability and ownership of handguns say should increase their value over time?

Stop acting like this is policy, it is politics. They would never do this if they were secure, this is one of the main wedge issues, they are only putting it forward because they are desperate. Which is not to say it will not work. Ideally they wouldn't do it because you want to keep wedge issues for ever.
In Quebec, however, it is a policy issue they seem to want this stuff. Odd, I am in a Motel in Quebec, had a terrible meal at McD, but the two commercials over the washroom sink were on not being a greedy hunter, and on locking up your guns to minimize suicides, etc... Meaning, they like some guns well enough in the province to have public service ads in McD washrooms.

Maybe if it occurred in a free market. The piece I saw mentioned no new buyers, probably no sales between existing buyers, but maybe not. They sell prohibs which, I don't get for lack of knowledge of the areas.

I'd look at it for sure, though there are plenty of those sorts of things out there.
I would contact the NRA on our behalf, and tell them this is a sales issue for their makers. Canada is very prejudicial about what it allows up here. It is blocked by US laws, but only because Canada did not ask to be exempted. So I can't even get a 22 barrel up here without hundreds of dollars of cost on top of the 40 Green Mountain charges. Hell the UK lets more stuff in.
Add to that a bad on the main guns shooters seem to want, and it is a big kick in the crotch for US makers and small businesses. And Trump is negotiating a free trade deal with Canada, why is the NRA letting this slide (assuming that may be so, nothing mentioned up here).

I'll bet the Liberal Party told Justin, you might not get re-elected and we need this done. Push it through and we will sell it as public safety and once guns are gone there is no looking back. The registration of long-guns was a constant hassle and was a plague for us. If the guns are gone you'll pay a price with the voters but our Liberal agenda is accomplished. At least this way if your not re-elected this social agenda item is done for the party.

During the run up to last election Liberal MP tabled legislation that effectively banned all
semi-autos and stated all remaining firearms would have to be stored at the range.
Regardless of this tabled legislation, there were many discussions here with
many individuals here who made it clear they were voting Liberal.

Having said that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with voting
for the party you prefer be it Liberal, Conservative, NDP, etc., as this is fundamentally how democracy works.

We need to send an email to ALL sitting Liberal, NDP, Bloc, and Green MPs, now. Paper letters to fillie. There are at least two CBC articles that explain how this “spike” in gun violence is mostly statistically manipulated from an outlier year, and that Blair and Goodale have no proof on their crime guns being sourced in Canada claim. Plenty of Stats to support us too - Stats Canada Homicide report 2013, the last time they conpared us to other countries. Half the countries on the list have more gun freedoms than Britain or Australia, and lower homicide rates. Emails now - swamp em, the. Letters to follow.
I always read that same line in these threads, but no one ever really spells out exactly what they mean when they say that. Until it is clarified, one can only assume that it implies that the gun owner is willing to literally fight to the death with whomever comes looking for their guns whether it be the police or military or otherwise. Big talk, and this would not be another scene in a video game.
We might also be more successful is if we frame this as being ineffective at reducing crime as opposed to an infringement on our privledges. The average canadian might prob doesnt care about the “rights” of gun owners, but they do care about public safety, and might not be too happy about legislation that doesnt go after the people who put them at risk.

We are never going to beat the leftists at their own game (using propaganda to manipulate public opinion), and for some reason we remain unwilling to actually fight back against these leftist, collectivist turds.
Laziness is my first guess. Although, I understand the cost and risk involved in the type of concerted action necessary to effectively push back against this communist-lite mission creep. We'll see how bad things have to get, before the balance shifts (ie. the cost of inaction finally tips the scales against the cost of pushback). One of the main considerations is how much are you willing to risk, while other gun owners watch on and do nothing? Even me personally, to think that I'm going to put up a bunch of time, money, risk and effort, and the whole while a whole country full of 'Claybusters' sits back and sneers? Screw that! At least at this moment in time, the number of Canadian gun owners I would be willing to put my neck out for, you can count on about 5 hands!
The numbers are all wrong for us to mount any sort of effective resistance, at least for now.
