Licence conditions paperwork

Hi all, I just got my PAL today and it was attached to form that has a bottom section titled "Conditions - Possession and acquisition" The form that the PAL card was attached to says that I need to remove the bottom section and keep it in case I am asked for it by peace officer or other authority. I'm finding it a bit odd that you would get a high-tech card with magnetic strip etc, and then be asked to tote around this piece of paper that has next to no information on it, does everybody keep this with them? On a practical note: how do you keep this from getting worn out? Laminate it??

Make a copy and keep it on you ...if it's RPAL and has special conditions on it ... it's your ATT actually ..
if not RPAL with special conditions , no significance ...

Never had anyone ever scan the magnetic strip on a license.

No, not everyone keeps it with them. It is hotly debated whether or not there is a duty to do so. The smarter people suggest it is a condition of your license to carry that document with your license. Either carry them both, or leave them both at home. You do not need to have physical possesion of your PAL while in Physical possession of your firearms, however you are obviously going to have a very difficult experience with law enforcement if you can't immediately present your license if asked.
 
i keep it with me, (rpal), i have been asked for it , was weird, , but he seemed a little annoyed i had it with me, seemed like they were out for some seizures that evening..

Have you ever looked at the back of your drivers license?
There too is a magnetic strip with lots of information there.
I have yet to see a LEO swipe my DL through a card reader.
Much ado about nothing if there are no restrictions attached to the paper.

The only condition on mine is "You must inform the Chief Firearms Officer of your Province or Territory within thirty (30) days of any change to your name or address." Shows as a standard condition and no special condition.

This seems like a given for everybody. Is it only the RPAL that requests you keep a copy on hand?

I'm inclined to just take a picture of it with my phone, I can show it if it's ever requested. The paperwork instructs to "detach the licence conditions printed below and keep them with your licence at all times. If requested by a Peace Officer or other authority, you must be able to provide both your licence and the licence conditions." Seems to me like having a picture of the licence conditions would constitute providing them? Does that seem like a reasonable approach?

Its written on the back side, just to confuse you. Where it says: Special Conditions (Continued) Carry this document with your license card as you must be able to produce this document on demand if requested by a peace officer or other authority.

It is clear. Copies are insufficient. The requirement is not to produce the wording of your license conditions, but the document itself.

You will note that there is no requirement to produce the documents IMMEDIATELY, nor does it specify that you must carry the documents on your person, which implies you are permitted a reasonable amount of time to retrieve the documents from where ever they are, in order to present them. What is reasonable will generally be determined by the officer you are dealing with.

In the event that an officer determines that you failed to produce it in a reasonable amount of time, and for whatever reason can't or won't check the CFIS for the records, they may, but are not required to, seize it. At which point you have 14 days to produce the license and certificates if necessary in order to claim the items.

My biggest fear of carrying my license around in my wallet is loosing the wallet and having some unknown person find my DL with Address and My PAL, basically identifying my address as a place to find firearms.
 
I use this. I put all the registration cards in the plastic ( they fit perfect), any range memberships, RSO cards. I clip the storage and transportation requirements right from the RCMP, or mag limit or bulletins, and also the ATT conditions. I normally throw it into my range bag. Or take it with me, if I'm purchasing a new gun.

You should come over and organize all the papers in the bottom of my gun locker that I havent touch in years. Half my registration certificates are still in the envelopes, unopened, I think. Joking.

Better yet, don't bother. Life is just a little bit brighter when you don't worry about the paperwork.
