Here's a story I figured that I would share with you, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
My licence was processed and supposedly sent on October 24th, according to the CFC website. Last friday, I called the CFC, as it had been two weeks since it had been sent, and still no licence. When I called, I was told that when it says on their website to contact them after two weeks, it is only a guideline. Furthermore, she told me that it is the fault of the Post Office that it is late, and that I should wait another week to contact them.
Today, I called again after waiting another week. At first I was told that I should wait until next wednesday and contact them again. I explained my predicament, and was told that it was still the fault of Canada Post. As soon as she told me this, I told her politely that I have a brother who works at the Saint John Post Office (my father just retired in June after working for Canada Post for over 35 years, though I didn't mention this to her). I also told her that I have talked to my brother, and he told me that mail from Mirimichi takes a maximum of 3 days to reach Saint John (1 day to sort, 1 in transit, 1 to sort in SJ) so the worst case scenario in mailing a letter from Mirimichi to Bains Corner, NB is 4, maybe 5 days, unless it is lost. She didn't seem impressed, and tried to tell me the 2 week timeframe is only a guideline. I politely asked her to look at it from my perspective. I asked that if they process the entire country's applications, then wouldn't it stand to reason that said timeframe is more aimed towards a licence mailed to say BC, and she said yes. She then said that November 11th was a holiday, and that there may be a backlog of mail in the postal system. I then calmly mentioned that November 11th occurred 2 weeks after it was mailed, so it really should have no effect on the fact that it is already late. I then mentioned that mail sent from one part of the province to another part of it obviously doesn't take 3 weeks unless it is lost in the mail, so there is no sense waiting any longer for a piece of mail that will never show up. Therefore, I concluded that it is better to re-issue the licence, and she finally (reluctantly) agreed to put in a request to re-issue it sometime next week, adding as a final verbal jab that if the other licence shows up in the meantime, that it will be null and void and must be destroyed.
I think I kept my frustration in check while hammering some points home on someone who just didn't want to listen, and hope that I didn't come off as being overly rude, but it should not be this difficult to get a licence re-issued if it is lost in the mail. I just hope that not everyone else at the CFC is not this confrontational.
