:( I broke my RCBS bullet puller today. What is the life expectancy of the kinetic type puller?

What broke is the screw on cap. I was pulling bullets from a batch of surplus 7.62 x 39. Now in addition to the broken cap, I have 2/3's of the casing holder. I will find the other third when I finally clean my shop.

Holy CRAP !!! Either last Saturday or Sunday (8 days ago) Jonanddad and I were in my shop....I was pulling 7.62x39 with my RCBS bullet puller. The screw on end broke off with about 1/4 of the body of the bullet puller in it !!! LOL !!!

I've probably pulled 500 or so rounds with it over the 5 or so years I've had it. Glad I had a Frankfort Arsenal backup puller.
 
My RCBS kenetic (the 1st one) shattered at the hammer end on about it's 10th bullet.. the 2nd one is defintely stress cracked, but now I only strike against the end grain of a chunk of spruce 2x4..

Contact RCBS and they will send you a replacement cap. A few years ago I had one break on me and they sent me a replacement one for free.

The Hornday cam-lock collet puller is amazing. I used the RCBS inertia puller for years and recently got the Hornday. I will NEVER go back. The RCBS still sits on the shelf as a backup.
 
The hammer portion of my RCBS Kinetic puller seperated a couple of weeks ago....... This was no real surprise to me as I have seen over a dozen broken just lile this. As far as I was concerned it was just a matter of time..... I just didn't expect it so soon. All told I have had that particular hammer for 18 months or so, about 250 rnds pulled.

I think I will invest in a different puller......
 
I've broken an RCBS, Dillon, and now my FA has cracks in it. I don't think any one is better than the other, you are, after all, beating a piece of plastic on a hard surface. No big deal, it's not like I need to mortgage the house to buy another........

:eek: Good idea Dennis! 3/4" brass nipple with a cap on one end, some kind of flare nut-type fitting on the other......just need to figure out a shoulder for the collet/shell holder to rest on.........

I think you're on to something!:cool:

RCBS replaced my complete kinetic bullet puller when it went south- much like yours but the hammer part broke as well. They have an excellent warranty policy. I use a collet type if I am taking a lot of bullets of the same calibre apart. I find the kinetic useful for taking apart a fubar during loading.
 
highly recommend investing in a collet-style puller. It's faster, less messy, less effort, and doesn't damage the bullets (especially SP or ballistic-tip types).
