Life Expectancy of a SKS?

Very true , I just bought three more on Monday , 150 each on sale.....and they are Russian with laminate stocks , they look like new...I wonder how much the dealers pay for these SKSs to be able to sell them so cheap , and how much does the distributor ( the middle man ) pay Russia for each rifle ......anyone have any idea of how much or how the system works ?

I didn't think anybody who knows is going to tell us this info on open forum But I'd imagine that the Russian Army would gladly pay anybody to get rid of those old guns and clear space in warehouses. Probably same goes for the surplus ammo too : )

I think the biggest cost is shipping and permits/paperwork/payoffs! Glad someone is going through the trouble of importing them cause they are cool and fun to shoot!

We're going to run out of surplus 7.62x39mm ammunition long before our belovded sks wears out. Hell, they may all get confiscated and chopped up over the next century instead.

The SKS was designed and built to go to hell and back! I doubt I will ever wear one out but if I do I have plenty more so I am sure they will wear me out, my son out and his children out whenever they come along way before the guns wear out

one create of chinese ammo did in my 49.... fing coper washed steel rounds sending sparks out the end of the barrel. last 5 inches was smooth as a babys bottom by 1000 rounds.

Never by a batch of that junk again.

Interesting to hear that. All my SKS's have varying bullet counts, some very high, and all the bores look and shoot like new. My one '49, however, has a farily worn bore. I am thinking that the Russians either improved the metallurgy after '49, or my '49 saw heavy use by the Soviets.

We'll we are not young full mag dumps shooting full auto.
Shoot 5 round mags in semi auto fashion = long barrel life with proper cleaning

Iv probably eaten up 4000 rounds with my Norinco SKS, i have replaced an extractor spring and a firing pin. But She just keeps eating all my 7.62X39mm. i ALWAYS give her the love she deserves after a day at the range.

But how long can i expect it to live?

After how many rounds will i see my groups permanently open up?

How many rounds do you have through your SKS? And what did it take to keep her alive?

Will the gun become dangerous to fire after X amount of rounds?

In theory Russian SKS should last 40,000 rounds (not shot at once). People reported 16,000 and 20,000 with no problems.

Sarcasm at it's finest.........

1 round = (verry rough guestimate) 1 millisecond in barrel.
40,000 X 1 milisecond = 40,000 milliseconds
40,000 / 1000 = 40 seconds

YOUR BARREL WILL LAST LESS THAN 1 MINUTE

AK rate of fire in full auto is 900 rounds per minute... MG-34 in full out was 800.

Yes, you are right. I'm a sarcastic ass.......

I was referring to the amount of time the barrel will actually spend under pressure: actual firing time.
If you fire 40,000 rounds over a period of.....say 5 years....the barrel will have actually "worked"
for less than a minute.

A non chrome lined barrel will last about 5000 rounds.
