What hunts have you missed out on for any reasons that you will always regret?

I know I have a few :(

The one I will regret the most is missing out on going for the summer and fall with my old man when he was still guiding in the NW Territories :( . At the time I was so interested in hanging out with friends, chasing girls and working on my 4x4's that I turned down the offer. That one will kick me in my ass for the rest of my life. Hormones can do strange things to a teen

What hunts or trips do you regret missing out on and why?

I regret not being invited to go hunting this year with my friends Father (our neighbour), and his friends.

It turned out to be his Fathers last hunting trip... as he died in his sleep in the back of the truck on the way home. :(

One hell of a nice man.
RIP Steve.

I missed out on a moose hunt invite this fall because of travel..... 800kms is not that far... stupid work ####ed that all up.

I miss Thompson for hunting.....

I miss lots of hunts because of work or family priorities, but he the only one I really regret missing out on was a bird hunt my fahter and I were planning a few years before he died.

I regret not getting into hunting sooner and therefore missing out on all the fun. I'm 42 and just got into firearms and hunting a year ago. I love being outdoors. I love the animals too, although I will shoot them if I have a reason.

Got my first coyote two days ago. :dancingbanana:

Never too late, you're on the right track now :D .

Good luck

I used to go on day hunts to alpine meadows near a 1920s-era log cabin on northern Vancouver Island with my father when I was a teenager and never overnighted there.

Could have been awesome hunting there right at first light.

Also, though I moved to Vancouver in 1986, I only started waterfowling in 2001, missing years of awesome duck and goose hunting. I'm just learning how to shoot a shotgun and figure out the good spots now.

pretty much what he said with minor changes.

When I was 17 I was offered to go with a Friend/Guide for the fall. I would have been responsible for the horse and helping out where I could. Well I haven't had many positive experiences with ponies and even still I am uncomfortable around them so like a moron I turned Robby down. He said I could go sheep hunting for myself when clients weren't out too. Every morning when I get up from my alarm, first thing I do is kick myself in the rump and say "dumb azz".:(

I really miss spring bear season, haven't gone for 6 years. For me sitting in that tree stand listening to the Robbins that have just arrived and the little stream gurgling are pure heaven! Once again I have had to turn Nugget down on a spring hunt up north but I need my 37-303 running for that trip.;)

Another one I hate to say is every time I tell Lazy Ike we need to go after wolves and never seem to get to do it. I am getting to be a bloody broken record! Sorry Jarrod, some day.........

Good thread Dave, but I don't feel any better talking about it! LOL

I'd do anything to go back in time to hunt with my Grandad and Great Uncles, that would be so cool!

I started hunting at 9yo, hunted hard with my dad until I turned 20 and joined the military. After discovering that chicks dug a uniform Ikinda slackd off the hunting. Plus all my bud were youg too and none hunted. After 3 years in a drunken/### stupor, I got my guns out and hit the bush again. Unfortunately I was then stationned to Germany were I mostly hunted Frauleins... I was asked by a Jager Meister I met during a militiray exercise to accoompany him and shoot a stag. Unfortunately the brigade had to move and I never had my chance...

Since I came back to Canada in 1991 I've hunted every year, not very succesful at it but loving it! Now getting my daughter's into it too.

Every day I am at work and not in the bush is a downer.

I think we all feel the same way. But what I am asking is what hunts did you miss out on that you will always regret, and for what reasons did you miss them...

Every day is a regret for me. Although my father is still alive, he is close to 80 now. I moved here in the mid 70`(west coast to Manitoba)I should have been home a lot more than I have been. My Father taught me a lot about hunting...trained me. Now he is too fragile to hunt these days. My regret is knowing that I will never be able to hunt with him again before he passes.

Please don`t let this happen to you.

None. However, realizing how short life is is a double edged sword. I've observed enough cranky old men to know that they didnt do the things they wanted, and you can be damned if I'll be one of them. However sometimes I think if I noticed every little thing a little less,I'd live longer and sleep better...One things for sure, weather I lie on my death bed tomorrow or 20 yrs, there wont be any woulda shoulda coulda's....No way..Even though my kids eating money like smarties in school right now, and I say no exotic hunt, the gears are still turning..I live in a decent house with a modest income, but if I dont get every little stinkin thing done exactly perfect,or the kid has a wee loan to pay when done,is it really going to be as hard as it is for everybody to know I went out unhappy....For years, sorry mulitiple decades my uncle talked about hawahi ,never went, always a reason. You ask anybody in our family now what they remember about uncle Bill. Its not that the windows werent changed, the kid was short a little on bucks,etc,etc..Hell we dont even remember the color of his house. But 24 yrs later our hearts still ache that Bill didnt get to Hawahi..

When I was a kid, I used to read alot of JOC and other writers. I always wanted to go on a BG hunt in the Yukon with my Dad.

Now my Dad had a farm and with it alot of responsibility. He was a very practical man who could be a bit tight with his cash. He thought going to the Yukon or similar for a hunt would be a big waste of $$, esp when we have a moose camp outside Hurst, Ont. "Why go to the Yukon, when we can hunt close to home?" was his reply.

I never did get to go on a hunt like that with my Dad. I DID get the hunt with WhyNot? and had a fabulous time. It was the hunt of a lifetime, but could only wish my Dad was there too.

I never got to hunt wolves with my father in law and he never got to hunt out west.

Never fear Noel we'll get out, just as soon as I find that elusive eight day of the week which is apparantly the only one I'm not working! Then again maybe we'll both keep running or mouths until its time to try for spring bear again and we'll see what major surgery befalls me this year.

Oh and by the way I saw two more on the river just outside Water Valley in late dec bring this years count to seven.
