G'day Everyone

Just got some 200 grain hornady bullets for my 338, and will start reloading for this caliber.

I've have a container of RL22, and was hoping to use it with these bullets.

Any suggestions for starting and max loads to start with????

I think it might be a bit too slow.

The website with 200 gr Speer bullet calls for 76 grains of 19 for 2806 fps and 71 grs of 17 for 3002.

Sounds like 22 would be too slow for that combo. I ran a 338 win mag for a bit and with light bullets I was using Varget.

I have many different powders on hand, but would not consider RL22 for the 338 - except maybe the real heavy bullets. Without looking at a book, I am guessing something around 4831 in speed would be about as slow as I would go, and 4350 would be about right.

I have tried Re-22 with 225gr bullets in my 338 and it didn't like that combo. Alliant don't list a load for the 338 with Re-22 with lighter than 250gr bullets. My rifle preferred IMR4831 or Re-19 for the 225gr bullets, I would look at those powders for your 200gr loads as well.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'll be heading to get my hands on some Reloder 19, or H4350.

I want to try some big Barnes TTSX's in 250 grain or larger, so I guess I'll save my container of Reloder 22 for that.

Later.............
