Light bullets for .308

I need to buy a coyote gun (. 223 or.243) but I don't have the funds right now. So, I am wondering if anyone here is shooting 110g to 130g bullets in thier.308? My Rem. 700 has a 20" barrel with 1:10 so I don't get alot of velocity out of 150g + projectiles. Accuracy is generally my number 1 priority but I am willing to give some up for less drop. Most of my shots would be 300 yards or less. I was hoping to find a decent load to get my velocitys up in the 2900 to 2950 range.

It is a mistake to give up any accuracy for a small decrease in bullet drop for a coyote gun, especially at any distance less than 300 yds. Use the most accurate load you have for your .308, whatever that is, and go hunting.
 
Thanks for the input. I am currently loading 185g Laqua bullets, I know.... Major overkill for coyotes, but my load is shooting 1/2 moa out to 300. Unfortunately, at 2450fps, I have 19" drop at 300 and 29" at 350 which means I have to keep my range finder handy and with dog on the move it is not an easy feat to get a range. I have also entertained getting a 243 barrel made for the gun.
 
1 in 10 is way to fast for 130. all depends what type of accuracy you want. 155's will get you just over 1 moa at 100. in my hand loads for 1in10 in a 20 sps tactical. 168 is the min for accuracy in a 1in10.
 
That's pretty much what I have found as well. I have never had anything under 165g shoot worth a crap. Maybe I should just suffer it out until I can afford a new gun or at least a new barrel. A magnetospeed V3 is the next thing on my wish list.
 
I have had stellar accuracy form Sierra 125s. They blow up real good, too.

My son used them back to 600 yards in his target rifle (20" brl) when he was too young to handle full recoil. He was using a reduced load of 4895.

His rifle was a 1:14, but I doubt twist would make much difference.

You should be able to get at least 3150 fps.
 
Op: What you will find with the 110's is that they produce a massive exit hole. I used 110 VMax and got ca 4" exit hole. The inside of the yote looked like blood soup. The best light bullet for yotes in 30 cal is the 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. It was actually designed for deer so expansion is somewhat controlled but being a Ballistic Tip it still opens up fairly quickly. It is also a very accurate bullet.

I run 125 Ballsitic Tips in a 1:10 Savage and it will shoot 5/8" 5-shot groups all day. Which is a hell of a lot better than your 1 MOA.
 
I am currently using 110 ttsx in a .308, but that is because they are the only thing I could get to shoot accurately. Killed a couple deer with them though, and they work just like they are supposed to. Small exit holes though.
 
As far as light bullets go in a .30, I'm a big fan of Speer 125 TNTs. .308s with H4895, IMR 4064, or IMR 3031 and I think you'll be singing (preference to H4895). I even had some loaded for a 30-06 that I once lent to a buddy - he decided that he didn't need better "deer" bullets (unbeknownst to me) and shot a whitetail buck at just over 200 yards with almost flawless performance, considering the type of bullet it is supposed to be.

Back when 30-06 was all I had, I shot a ton of coyotes with the 125 TNT. Shoot the kaiyootz lengthways and they don't make a big mess. However, any quartering shot does not bode well for selling the hide....but they do get quite dead ;)

I had a 308 load with 125gr ballistic tip that shot in one hole at a 100 yards, would doo very well on coyotes at most ranges
 
110gr vmax and blc-2 are excellent for accuracy in both of 308's . Amazing actually. .5" groups are the norm for both. They also shot well out of my 30-06. They hammer coyotes too.
 
Out of my Sako .308 I've been shooting 130 gr TTSX over 49.1 gr. of Varget with stellar accuracy; about 3000 fps.. 7 1/2 " drop at 300 yds. when I'm zeroed in at 200 yds.
