Light Carbine for Coyotes? Is it possible??

I'm planning to make a "fur-friendly" coyote carbine in as light of weight possible using my Savage 11 FCNS. Shots vary between 20+100yds. Might be the odd shot between 200+300yds but very seldom.
I was wondering if any of you use a carbine length rifle for coyote/varmint hunting?
Did you cut to the barrel to the minimum or get a custom barrel?
How long is the rifle?
Did you keep the factory stock or change it?
How heavy would it be? Would you prefer it to be heavier or lighter?
What would you use to make a light-weight coyote rig if you needed to do a lot of walking?

Feel free to give opinions too. I could use some ideas to finalize my plans.

I've never used the caliber but savage makes the model 25 varminter in a light weight package. Synthetic stock and short barrel. Its chambered in 22 hornet and 204 ruger I believe. Sorry I'm not much help. For close work I use a 22 mag with 30gr hornadys. They work well
 
My opinion, maybe a stock Browning A-Bolt Micro Hunter in 22 Hornet & good optics?
IIRC, you can get the newer X-Bolt in 204 Ruger or 223 also.
Sadly the Micro Medallion A-Bolt in 222 Remington is but a dim memory.

I second Gunslinger's suggestion. My CZ 527s (7.62X39, and .223 Rem.) are short, light, portable, and as accurate as target rifles. Those short, stiff barrels enhance accuracy.
 
In 223 reload yourself 52 gr Amax at 3400 fps, they wont damage the fur as they act like a ice pick, the yote will fall without damage... JP.

There's options I hadn't thought of. I would like to use my Savage action since I have the tools and experience to do so.
I would definately consider something like the CZ Carbine. It does look like the kind of rifle I'm trying to construct.
Have any of you used it or something like it in the field?
I have had injury to both shoulders from a tough choice in career and older age setting in makes it a little more difficult to deal with. I know a heavier rifle shoots better for me but I don't want to quit hunting. I've dragged a couple of coyotes, rifle and gear back to the truck and I'm almost spent.
Any areas that I might shave ounces is key for me.
Compact optics, lighter stock, and barrel/rifle suggestions are all welcome.

A CZ527 standard in .204 (or similar) like 22 Hornet is more like a .22 when I use mine. It is light and very accurate and handy.
 
I have a Cooper in 17 Rem FB and it's an honest 300 yard coyote rifle with no recoil and not too loud either. If you are doing a barrel swap it would be a good caliber to look at. Cheap to reload too.
 
Ya the Cooper is a sweet one....just need a better job if I plan on looking that nice. I never thought on the 17FB but I may concider the 17 Rem since it's size fits the mag and should feed well.

Why would you think it isn't possible?

Shooting coyotes doesn't require any special long heavy barreled gun.

Stevens 200 in .223 and a barrel chopped and recrowned, with a boyds stock and your done, all for $500!

Spend your savings on a nice piece of glass. ;)

It definitely is a nice compact accurate package. I've been interested in the 20 Vartarg too. Someday.

Don't forget you will always have the option to add a match gade barrel in the future as well.

Mystic Precision can get you a wide variety of barrels, and North Shore can even contour them to whatever you like I believe.

That said those Stevens barrels usually shoot pretty damn good.
 
I thought this thread was about light carbines for coyotes I haven't seen one light carbine posted yet?

Here is one of my light coyote carbines = 21" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 223 loaded with 40gr V-Max @ 3440fps consistantly gives me 1 1/2" - 2" 3 shot 300 yard groups.

I also have a 21" 17 Rem Contender carbine barrel I'm working up loads right for it hoping to get an accurate load with 25gr V-Max @ 3800fps - 3900fps.
