Light loads for 45-70

My advise is to never use a card over powder in a light load that has unfilled case space, a barrel/chamber bulge is a very distinct possibility from using them.

Hence the filler COW usually.John Wooters had a 45-70 load with 3 stacked .457 balls I'll have to look up.

What loading technique are you using? Filler and or card over powder/crimp etc

Just stuff the ball down into the case, but DON'T compress the Trail Boss. Trail Boss DOES NOT like being compressed.
Trail Boss DOES tolerate a lot of open space, so you don't have to stuff the ball too deep.
Just load singly direct into the chamber when you see the dumb bird.
Most slower pistol powders will work too.

Okay...went to load test this morning.First off 7 grains TiteGroup and 300 grain campro then 8 grains W231 same bullet. Both loads shot like mild .38's (from out of a 8 pound rifle) and were surprisingly accurate at the range we were shooting (25 yards indoor). The old guy was very happy with these loads but the downside is went thru the 20 (ten each) 45-70's I made pretty quick.Titegroup was a bit more accurate with his Henry so will use that load for him.All is good and lotsa fun!:dancingbanana:
