Light-mounted Pistol Question

Flashpoint? Well, they tried to start out using actual ETF calls as subject matter then it got all Hollywoodish.

ETF is a damn good unit! I know a few of their folks!

Robbie, my parents ran off to the US with their new trailer for the winter and left me alone! They even changed the locks before they left I think.

Besides, my mom wouldn't let me wear my boots in the house. She better come back soon though because I don't know how to run the washer... well, I better get back to watching SWAT... that movie was so real! :D

To be honets though, I hope that someone helps out the OP on this topic.

I just happened to check back here. Wow. I had no idea this would snowball into this debate within the community. My apologies for kicking the hornets nest here.

Thanks for your feedback and opinions. It's appreciated.

In view of a couple of responses on this thread I took the liberty to send Kevin Boland's comments regarding shooting IDPA in Florida to the Area Coordinator for Florida. Here is Lance's response:

"To respond to your question, I first gotta say... “Well, you know how it goes; it must be true, 'cause I heard it on the "Net"!" Ha!

Short answer: NO! Absolutely not. Please feel free to inform your members that the IDPA clubs in Florida are following the IDPA rulebook in regard to weapon mounted lights, and Mr. Boland’s (whoever he really is, see below) statement to the contrary is in error.

In fact, with a few exceptions, the IDPA clubs down here shoot on outdoor shooting ranges that have restrictions prohibiting them from shooting at night at all. One of those exceptions is the match that I run in Leesburg. We shoot on an indoor range and turn off the range lights for at least one stage each match. No weapon mounted lights are allowed.
( I make an exception for the few L.E. officers that we have that are using their issue duty rig and gun, if it has a light mounted. But… they’re scored separately, off the IDPA record. ).....

Just between you and me, Bob; are you sure of the info you have on this guy?
You didn’t say where you got Mr. Boland’s name and work info from, but I just got off the phone with Hdqs, and guess what? Dru tells me that their membership records show no IDPA member named Kevin S. Boland.
So, just for fun, I went back through the last 6 months of scores of the closest 4 IDPA clubs to Titusville, and, again… no Kevin S. Boland.

Anyway, if you should have any further contact with “Mr. Boland”, would you please ask him to let me know which Florida clubs he is referring to, that are disregarding the rulebook, so I can pay them a visit? Thanks! See you in Tulsa!

Enough said, I think.

since when does someone need to be a member to attend non sanctioned, non match practice nights or days ?? on practice nights or "skills and drills" nights the rule book does not apply bob.... frankly your continued chest thumping about the rule book and how it must be obeyed is discouraging for me..... YES we realize that for sanctioned events and or club matches the rule book must be followed.

but stop being such a hard ass. your taking the fun out of the sport and frankly your discouraging people from even trying the sport because of the "YOU MUST TOE THE LINE" stuff..... we are shooters we like to have fun, we are also adults and we know how to read and more importantly know when the rules apply and when they can be relaxed a bit.

going to the florida area coordinator just makes the point that more direct.... frankly at my local club for the upcoming season we are renaming "IDPA Night" to a simple "Skills and Drills, "*DPA" style shooting experience" just to encourage new people to come out and shoot what they got.... will we encourage people to follow the rules and will we brief them on what the rules are and how they can meet them, yes.... but frankly 80% of them will never shoot a match, sanctioned or otherwise.

so why be a hard ass to them which will just push them away from the sport... we can have low light shoots in out indoor range no problem, and frankly I think the training is good. because we all know we allready have to goto our safe, unlock it, grab the pistol and unlock it, unlock the ammo storage and get the magazine and load the pistol before we can defend ourselves..... might as well have a light mounted on the gun rather then the extra step of trying to find a flashlight.

Tim when someone posts what Kevin Bolland did it insults us all and in particular our sister clubs in Florida. If you don't like me defending this sport then don't read the posts. Nobody , including me, ever suggested you can't have low light/no light stages. If you are having an IDPA practice night then I would ask why not practice the skills you need when you have your monthly match. Include low light scenarios all good. Just don't tell me you are practicing shooting IDPA low light scenarios with a light attached to the gun. You aren't.

You say your club doesn't hold matches. That isn't what Wes tells me.
