For a packable hunting rifle that can drop big game i'm going with a Mossberg MVP Patrol .308 for its short length then thinking about putting it in a MDT LSS chassis to further reduce the weight and length.

The MDT LSS won't help the weight at all, the chassis weighs 1.6-2lbs, plus the weight of a butt stock.

Tikka t3 lite stainless....have one and love it. very light rifle, nice trigger and smooth action....and around $1000 so more $$$ for glass or a nicer stock if that's what floats your boat
