I'm looking for suggestions on a scope for my modern hunter in 308win. I want to keep the rifle as light as possible so I can pack it around hunting. I would like the scope to go down to 3x - 4x power but go up high enough to shoot gongs at 800 meters on range days. I would like to stay around $1000 but I am willing to pay up to $2000 for the perfect scope. Thanks ahead of time for all the suggestions.

Thanks Ryan

You'd do very well to find a used March like this 2.5-25x42. It's light, has a versatile zoom, great turrets and the best glass in the business.

I have B&L Balvar (10" long, 10oz) 4x compact (much brighter than M8 4x Leupold) on my 308Win LH Ruger 77 and my 65yo less than perfect vision to my disposal.
Never desired more power in my scope shooting deer to 300+m and moose a little further than that.
Still can manage to hit 12"x12" steel plate at 500m at my shooting range darn often if wind cooperates.
I have no idea why anybody needs 25x power in his 308Win hunting rig....

There was a dealer in Calgary a couple years ago but after trying to order a new one I gave up and presumed he had quit the business.

Nobody does...But for a target rifle it might make sense.

Yes, for target shooting I like as much magnification as possible. I find that every time I'm on the bench, the scopes go to max power and stay there. Better to have it and not need it...

I couldn't find any march scopes. Your bare rifle with no scope looks lighter then mine. Your handgaurd is shorter and stock is lighter. Your barrel may be shorter also mines a 20 inch.

I guess I need to weigh that Burris I got from you and maybe try it in those ATRS rings. Maybe just swapping the rings will help.

I think you'll need extra high rings for a 50mm objective but call ATRS and they'll know. They're also good about exchanging rings if you haven't used them yet.
