How difficult is it to adjust the weight of the trigger pull on a 10/22? I heard that it is best to bring it to a gunsmith or to buy an after-market trigger assembly (?). I don't know in what direction to go on this one and I'm not too mechanically inclined, I just don't like the heavy pull and it need to disappear. Any and all advice is welcome!

Thanks in advance!

If you are not too mechanically inclined, its best to just buy the valquartsen parts (hammer alone does wonders) and reassemble it. Stoning the surface is cheap but requires an eye to detail.

If you are mechanically inept - money cures that - a Jewell trigger is the best - just drop it in -

However - its expensive and you need to know how to use allen wrenches to adjust it -

That was a really good video. Thanks for the link. Just might have to get back into the 10/22 game but not go quite as hard as I did. Might have to make it "Superstock" only.:D

if you're going to buy the vq hammer i would suggest you give it a go and tgry lightening up your own hammer. worse case if you screw it up you have the replacement anyway. relatively easy process to do if you're good with a dremel, just don't go too much and change the angle bc then it becomes full auto, sounds cool but complete waste of ammo.

if you want the specifics or in the gta drop me a pm. installing the vq hammer will require you strip the thing down anyways. once you learn to take apart the 10/22 you won't believe how easy it is and the satisfaction in knowing how your rifle functions. i walked my father in law through this process a couple of days ago and he loved the fact that its not a mystery anymore.

Dremel on a hammer!! Full Auto!!!!

I would be a little leery on giving (or taking) instructions such as there.

You could bring a world of hurt on yourself VERY easily......:runaway:

The modification to the hammer sear surface should be done using a stone. Dremel??? I could see using it for polishing surfaces with jewlers rouge, but not for altering the engagement surfaces. What are you doing with the dremel?

As John Baker says in the video, go slowly, better to assemble/disassemble several times than go to far and ruin it.
I took 5 passes at it then stopped. Trigger is smooth, safety works and bolt releases with a pull.

Where are you located? There is usually someone around to give you a hand. I'm in Kelowna, BC. It is fairly easy to modify your OEM components to have an adjustable hammer and sear plus get rid of that pesky plunger. You do need a little knowledge of metalworking and you do need a few tools, drillpress #1 so if you don't have access to that or know somebody who does it is probably best to just buy the predone components and install them. Rimfire Technologies stuff is A1 but all the big names have good stuff. Make sure you order a bolt buffer also.

I see that the Great West gunsmithing site is closed now. Too bad, it was an excellent video of stoning the hammer and sear including disassembly and reassembly of the trigger group.
