I was wondering of you folks knew of the best and safest way to lighten the trigger pull on my MKI Inglis Browning HP. The gun shoots great but its like crushing a cement block every time I pull the trigger.

I heard there might be some quick fixes, something to do with the mag retention piece?

any help would be appreciated

For a 60+ year old gun it sure groups well

Disassemble the trigger group and remove the magazine safety. It is a plunger that rubs against the front of the magazine. The improvement is significant. You can leave the little pin that holds it in, sticking out 1/16" as a trigger stop.

Or, polish the safety's engagement surface on your magazines with emery cloth. If your mags are polished the trigger pull is predictably pleasant, if they are rough you have your cement block effect.

Check the edges where the sear meets the hammer. If they look a little beat, then thats where your trouble lies. Perhaps the thing that damages these more than anything else is guys who trip the hammer while the slide is off. The hammer goes forward too far and dings the sear. You can repair the edges by lightly stoning them, but personally I have always just put new parts in and that cures the problem. I recently had a no2 that had a wicked pull of almost 12 pounds; new hammer and sear dropped that to just under 5.
I've seen some sears get the corners (left and right) notched away so there is less surface area. I've also seen the lighter spring added like repete mentioned. I had one Inglis that would give too many misfires due to light strikes caused by too light a spring.
I have been fortunate that at the calgary gunshow, a new JI spare hammer and sear will usually run you about $15.

Disassemble the pistol, then pop out the wee pin in the rear of the trigger and take the mag safety out of the rear of the trigger inside the frame. You don't need to take the trigger out. You can change the springs too, but just removing the mag safety will significantly improve the trigger pull.
If you opt to polish the sear/hammer, only remove the 'parkerizing' and polish the engaging surfaces of the sear and hammer. Do not remove any metal. It's very easy to change the angles thus damaging the whole thing.
