Good Evening Friends,

I got started in the competitive shooting world recently. I am using a CZ SP-01 shadow. Somebody told me a popular thing to do that still keeps the gun production is lightening the trigger pull. I know the double action limit is 5 lb so i'm assuming it would go down to 6 to be safe and the single action to 1 or 2? The person that told me about it recommended a gunsmith should do it. I'm hoping to hear from people who have done this or had it done and if it's worth it? is it an expensive job if you get a smith?

Thanks, Logan

I suggest you to download the most up to date IPSC rule book and check the production division rules including appendix. I am coming back after 10 years absence and the best way to do it is reading the entire rule book back and forth. I still didn’t decide the division I am shooting but also considering production.

As per the previous post, there are trigger kits available that are drop in but if you can get some help from a good gunsmith it helps.

If you feel comfortable doing this, & you are confident about your skillset:

Take out the hammer spring that is secured in the grip. Count the coils on the spring. I cannot remember how many coils are there, but say there are 40 coils. Cut off 2 coils or 5%. Reinstall the spring & test. Want a bit more? Cut off 2 more coils or 10%. Then stop.
That's the easiest way. Or you could purchase a reduced power hammer spring. Wolf Springs might sell them.

13 lbs mainspring
light firing pin spring
“pre-B” disconnector + race hammer + hammer strut + pins

The latter you can do yourself or get a gunsmith to do it. The modified disconnector significantly shortens reset and single action pre-travel, and race hammer cleans up and lightens trigger pull. They may need to be fitted, however. Hammer strut and pins are not necessary, but nice to have, because these parts all go together, and you can keep the factory strut-hammer-disco assembly as a spare.

Or get a Cajun trigger kit. Aftermarket trigger parts are now legal in production, as long as DA trigger pull is 5 lbs or more. Trigger “smoothness” matters more than the pull weight, IMO.

Grip tape is very helpful.

Most importantly, practice, practice, practice
