Lightest 22lr for a pack gun?

Ruta Locora (sp?) Makes a kit that's uses on a Chimpmunk rifle that gets it down to 16oz. It comes with a carbon fibre wrapped barrel and a tube stock.

Interesting. And kinda weird. Lol between the cost of a rifle and the kit, it's probably too much money for my liking though.

Get a youth model H&R .22 Sportster, I make a QD Takedown knob for them, they go together in 10 seconds and are light, extremely compact and feel like a "real" rifle... plus they are exceptionally accurate... unfortunately, you will have to shop the used market.

Any idea how much those weigh? And what they go for used these days?

20" barrel, iron sights, 12" LOP, 4.5 lbs... and accurate.

Too heavy. I hear the rascal and badger are both accurate enough to do what I want, so I'm not wanting to go heavier unless there is a real advantage. (eg the papoose is mag fed, so it gives me a lot more firepower, but if accuracy is worse like it is with wayupnorth's example, I'd rather the more accurate single shot.)

I think you should handle a couple of the suggestions in this thread, then decide. I'd be surprised if you didn't end-up with the Savage Rascal. :)

Well that's the thing. I know I'll end up with a rascal soon. My daughter is 7, and her brother is almost 6 so one might appear under the Christmas tree, and if not one will make it into my locker before next summer. That will be the first of these guns I buy.

However, I started this thread to get an idea of what else is available. Never seen that pack rifle from profit river for instance. The conversion kit mentioned by beaver skin is another thing I've never seen before...

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. My options are greater than I had thought. Now to get through my last few weeks of university so I can buy myself a grad present lol

Did I mention my Rasal is pink? I also put some Hello kitty sticker's on it

Mine will be too! lol

Actually, I haven't decided yet. I know I'll end up with a pink one for my daughter (or maybe purple?), but I might buy a more neutral color for the first one so my son doesn't complain. lol I quite like the blue and yellow ones...

I just picked up the last Savage Rascal in stock at the local WSS close-out, red wasn't my first choice but I'll take it over pink... After the $50 USD rebate that's on right now I'll only be into it for ~$133 taxes-in, cheapest gun I know of.

It was the only one EPP's had in stock at the time. I leave it on the dash during hunting season and with the sticker's everyone think's it's a toy

Just a side note. The AR7 is the only gun that will float ;)

it WILL float but only for a couple seconds.

this is from a email conversation i had with Henry C/S about it

Thanks for reaching out with the question. The rifle really isn't designed to float indefinitely, but rather stay at the surface long enough for retrieval if accidentally dropped into water. Any other rifle would sink like a rock upon being dropped into water, so the design on this one slows that sinking to make retrieval possible.

plus i tested it at work.

Hah. Very nice.

You'd think they would change that. I'd think it only takes a bit of rubber to finish sealing the thing, then it would float forever...
