Looking for the lightest available stock to fit an original Mauser 98 action... For a decent price.

One stipulation. I don't want checkering or grip texture on the the forearm. And no Monte-Carlo cheek rest.

Suggestions?

Edit: a cut-out for the thumb hole would be a plus.

I good friend of mine had a custom rifle built on a M98 action several years ago and it had an extremely light stock on it. Made in Canada I think. Unfortunately I don't remember the maker and he's passed away now so I can't ask him. From what I remember it was hand laid fiberglass, or something along those lines, over a hard foam core of some sort.

Let us know what you find for $200. I spent some time googling today and Wildcat composites seems to be a starting point price wise.

Fuzzy

Nice. I like the profile except for the cheek-piece. Cost? Call for price = $$$

I believe his Mauser stock is slightly different now - compared to the website photo. And if I remember right, it has to do with the cheek piece - I think the actual stock looks better in person than the one shown.

However, don't quote me on that - I haven't used his Mauser pattern stock and am going off memory here.

I have a few Wildcat stocks, and a few Browns. Like them both, but if you're trying to find the lightest stock, the Brown Kevlar Pounder is going to be right near the top of the list. Honestly, building a super lightweight Mauser hunting rifle is kind of a futile exercise. Sure you can lighten them up a little , but it's never going to be a ULA. Fwiw. - dan

Yup, I'm aware of that. Not planning on going all "Kimber Mountain Ascent" on it.

Light and manageable is the plan.
