I posted and asked what the twist was for a new win.30-06 feather and was told 1 in 10. so,, I'm new to reloading,,so new I have not done it yet. I have bought most of the equipment but was wondering what you all thought was the lightest grain that would stablize with this twist in a 30-06

First off what are you trying to do with this rifle. Are you using it for hunting big game, long range shooting? Why do you want a light bullet? Are you looking for max speed for coyote hunting?
When you use a light bullet in a 30 cal the BC of the bullet gets really poor so it can be a real trade off.
If you want good speed and a high BC and you are NOT using it for big game hunting I would recommend the sierra 155gr Palma match bullet.
They are a very accurate bullet and from my experience they need to be pushed fast.

The only issue you may run into not stabilizing bullets is with the long heavies. With the 1:10 I am pretty sure you can stabilize any of the 30cal bullets offered out there today.
You may over rotate a lighter, shorter bullet to the point that the bullet flies apart....but stabilization will be absolutely no problem.

I've had good accuracy with bullets as light as 125s, but not much success with 110s or lighter. I think the bearing surface is too short on the fly weights, but some folks claim to have good accuracy with them. I keep telling myself I'll try them again, but never seem to plunk down the cash for them when I'm standing at the counter.
FWIW, Ken Waters found that 49 grs of H-322 behind a Sierra 110 was the best load. I couldn't see any mention as to how accurate this load was, just that it was the best.

I used the Hornady 110s as a coyote load with success for many years. I got some pretty decent accuracy with the Vmax. My 308 liked the standard 110s better. Your rifle may be entirely different in what it likes. Velocity, type of powder, air temp. etc all play a part. You will just have to do what I did. Buy some bullets and some powder and get started in load development.
It is the heavy long bullets that need the fast twist. 10 is fast, and will probably handle any 30 cal bullet even over 200 grains. See the Berger site below. They recommend minimum twist for each bullet. Their heavier bullets only need an 11 twist, and the lightest ones will work with a 19!

I am using 110gn V-max in my .308 right now and they are shooting 3/8" groups at 100. I have also used them in my .30-06. I will have to look up the load, but since I bought the .308 for varmints last year, I haven't used the '06 for anything but big game hunting and that's with 150s or better.
The 1 in 10 twist of the 30-06 will handle the round nose 220 grain bullet very well. A good shot of H4831 benind the long 220 grain bullet gives outstanding accuracy in most 30-06 rifles.
