Lightest weight AR build ?

Something I've always been curious about .. and wanted to do.


Lets say you wanted to build the lightest weight AR you realistically could without anything weird. Meaning nothing too radial from the basic design.

Seems most "stock" AR's are 6 1/2 pounds'ish .. ?

Lets forget about budget. Just light, reliable and essentially true to the design.

What would you guys use for the various parts ?

the radical version are those see through lowers and uppers F1? I think but the lightest one I've owned is Noveske with NSR rails, My gen3 Noveske Infidel is lighter than my Vltor and any other AR I've owned, even when compared to the latest DD and Troy
 
Seems like many titanium parts coming online these days. Expensive but might save an ounce here and there ....

The barrel is far and away the easiest place to save weight. That and simply avoiding a bunch of unnecessary accessories.

A standard fixed stock will also be lighter than most of the overbuilt collapsibles that are on the market today.

If you can lose the forward assist you will save another 100g or so.
 
Minimalist stock, lightweight BC with adjustable gas block, pencil barrel, lightened slickside upper and lower receivers, carbon fiber or lightweight MLOK or Keymod handguard.
 
Yes, been thinking of not bothering with the forward assist since I've never needed to use them.

Haven't really looked into slick side lowers though. Must investigate.

Cheap, light, strong. Pick two. How much do you want to spend on this OP?

Bull####! You can easily build a 16" carbine that ways less than 6lbs without using any high end parts.

Just think Colt 6520 or 6720 with Fiberlite stock. Want to add an optic? Get an Acog TA33 or Aimpoint Micro and your still less than 7lbs. Want it lighter? That can be done too but then the cost will rise with a free float handguard but no more than any other freefloat build.
 
Proof barrel, minimalist stock, jp low mass bcg, but titanium gas block, simple free float carbon fiber handguard. I'd run a light weight red dot like vortex razor red dot on a QD riser if really trying to keep weight down.
