Lightly used Ruger AR-556 or new S&W M&P 15 Sport 2

I'm sure these two AR's have been compared profusely in the past but I have a hard time deciding between the two.

I have the choice between a gently used Ruger AR-556 (looks brand new in my opinion) with an extra 10-rounds magazine for $735, and a brand new Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport 2 for $710.

I will be using it for casual target shooting (not competitively) at the range, at a maximum of 300 yards.

What would you do if you were in my situation?

I buy most of my guns used only because I'm a cheap bastard and love a good deal. But if a new similar quality gun is almost the same price it's a no brainer.

I would go for the new M&P for less than $710, like Brewster said.

I have both. The S&W has a better fit finish IMO. Ruger has sharper/rougher edges in various spots when lower is removed from upper. S&W is a lot smoother. Ruger is a bit rougher when using the charging handle, and closing the BCG. S&W is smoother. I'm sure the rough edges will become less apparent due to usage over time. I think the Ruger is a neat AR but I shoot the S&W more often.
For an entry level AR (less than $1K) you really can't do much better than the S&W Sport II

When in the market for my first AR last fall I checked both. Ruger even tho with a general good rep, had a few displeasing reviews and the fact you get the S&W warranty seals the deal IMHO.

You also have another option right now, one of the CGN spons has a sale for an entry lvl AR sub 600$.
