Lightweight 243 options for wife

Gotta mark this down on the wall, I agree with Suther.
I bought my kid a Forbes model 20 in .243, was surprised how harsh the little thing was, had to download.

I wonder, bought my kids a Forbes model 20 in 243 as well. Shot it a few times with some 80gr tsx bullets and the recoil felt like nothing, but I can't seem to remember the crony numbers and the kids are just getting to the age when they are starting to shoot.

Appreciate the many recommendations. Truth is I have zero interest to mess with her current rifle, it's a excellent shooter and works great for her on stand hunts. I want her to have a second/backup rifle at the ready.
Thanks all, going take forums advice and order her a Tikka Superlite stainless fluted. I like it has a 22.5" barrel.

A Weatherby Camila, although designed for women by Weatherby, is not a great rifle....

I used to sell both the Weatherby Camila, and the Savage Lady Hunter. The Lady Hunter out sold the Weatherby twenty to one. The few Weatherby Camila rifles I sold were of poor quality and construction.......

Interesting, I know Savages Warranty is a heck of a lot more difficult to deal with over Weatherby's. How long ago where you selling them? The vanguards are their base model but I went with the Mark V Camilla and haven't had any issues

I have never dealt with a warranty issue with a Weatherby. I probably sold 30-40 Weatherby rifles over the four years that I had my shop. Weatherby makes a good rifle, they just do not have the cult type following here in the East Kootenays. I guess I should have said that their rifles are just not popular here.

I retired two years ago, so I ran my shop from 2020 to 2024. I sold well over 500 Savage rifles annually. The Savage warranty center was in Canada in those time frames. Warranty was as simple as Savage Canada sending me the parts, and I repaired them, or they sent me a pre-paid shipping label and I sent them the rifle for replacement or repair.

Savage warranty now is Savage USA. The senior gunsmith at Savage Canada, and several of his staff members quit when Matthew left. Savage USA although very nice, their warranty guidelines really suck. Especially being Canadian. As you say, it's a lot more difficult now to deal with warranty issues. I can only surmise that being taking care of now in the USA, that Savage Canada doesn't receive enough information about the warranty concerns. Meaning the real issue, or what parts are needed for replacement. I waited an entire year for a blemished Savage Revel Deluxe butt-stock and fore-piece. I knew every customer service rep in the USA by their first name. Like I said, awesome staff members, however extremely frustrating.

Even when Savage warranty WAS in Canada I heard a lot of bad stories on here. Wasn't Gretch the ones doing it a few years ago? I have only had to deal with them on my Henry trigger recall and it went great, but I've heard a lot of bad stories about them...

That’s a good choice. If your wife is slightly built or shorter, you might also look at Tikka’s Compact model. My wife loves hers in 243, and it’s been very effective on elk and deer.
