Hi, been out of shooting and all liquidated about 1.5/2 years ago.
This is a comeback of some sort, things have changed these past 2 years it would seem!

Now my good friend wants me to help him assemble a 7mmPRC together.
His objective, 6lbs max unscopped.
CF barrel and stock are in the budget.

Is this even attainable?
What's the shortest lenght barrel for 500 yards and good impact for moose?
What brand of components would you use for action, stock and barrel?

I am not looking for 1 spoon fed reply with a golden answer to this build.
Individual replies concerning either stocks, barrels or actions, strong enough for this aliber, but light enough for his objective are all good.
More of a discussion with lightweight component experiences in mind.

Looking to slowly build something on paper, and if it makes sense we'll order the parts, have her assembled, and share the results!
Cheers

Get a kimber action
get a wildcat stock
#2 barrel by Benchmark(they make a kimber profile)or CF barrel in the lightest CF contour
No bottom metal
22" barrel
Not a problem to make this happen
Or just buy a chirstensen arms Ridgeline FFT titanium in 7mm PRC and its all ready built, and its pre built and weights less than that
Either way.
I have one in 7mm Rem mag, and it is fantastic, and its like carring around a feather, I put a Ziess V4 6-24x50 on it and pack it up and down the mountain
Sold my kimber and kept this one.

Fierce/Antler also make some prebuilt options in 7PRC around the 6lbs mark. For 500 yards I wouldn't worry too much about barrel length. I'd go with 20" if really no plans to go past 500.

I have six 7 PRCs built in various barrel lengths and weights, also had one built for my buddy's son on a Sako A7 action with a 21 inch Carbon Fiber Barrel and a brake so 22.5" overall length barrel, It was getting 2820-2830fps with the 175gr ELDX factory ammo, it was getting 2900 with the Hornady Outfitter 160gr CX factory ammo.

you can get to the 6lb mark with a 18/20/22 inch CF barrel sendero light or lighter contour CF barrel, Defiance AnTi action, or just use a Kimber 8400 long action, Tikka SS action and a Wildcat stock, really depends if you want to go full custom or just a rebarrel/restock job.

parts list
Defiance AnTi Action 21oz, Tikka SS action, Kimber Montana action
Wildcat Stock 19-20oz (Alberta) Manners MCS Ultra Classic Plus 18.6oz the one I have Kimber Montana Stock 22-24oz
If you want a floor-plate alloy Bottom metal, if you use AnTi action use Hawkins M5 BDL as all anti actions are Wyatt cut 3.85"
If you use a brake use a titanium 2 port side port brake

Benchmark CF Barrels, Lightest #5 contour ( I have an 18" #5 contour 2lbs 8oz) , Sendero Lite, Hells Canyon is another great Carbon Fiber Barrel option,

My latest build I just received is a Defiance Rebel Long Action, 23 inch #2 Fluted stainless steel Benchmark Barrel, Hawkins M% BDL bottom metal, triggertech trigger, Wildcat Stock with high comb and palm swell added and it weighs 6lbs 2.3oz on its own, if I went with Rem alloy bottom metal I would be at 6lbs.

Also look at the Fierce Rogue at 5lbs 12oz, not a bad deal really,

For reference here is my #2 fluted Benchmark barrel next to the #5 CF Benchmark barrel

I want to try the MDT HNT26 chassis. Not sure what inlets are available, but it seems to fit in with your budget flexible and functional goals. The 7PRC might be the ultimate hunting cartridge if Hornady supports it well.

You can pick from any number of decent and lite actions now a days that are all pre fit precise. IBI carbon prefit barrel, and add your trigger tech of choice, and set into XLR magnesium or MDT HNT chassis.

IBI uses a barrel nut so you can put things together at home and drop into your chassis of choice. I build a 6.5 CM bench rifle in April this year on the Cadex and have been enjoying it immensely at the range. Nice knowing you don’t need a smith to put things together anymore to get the accuracy out of a rifle set up.

Or you could go pre-made for a bit less, and have it sooner, but without that personal touch that you did it.
