Lightweight Brno...The original Mountain Rifle?

Is the Igman ammo available in 7x57 too? Never heard of them.

Does your 21H have the double triggers?
Rob told me the single trigger one like I have is kind of rare.

Yes Noel, they do make 7x57 ammo. Their stuff is loaded to higher European specs. I wasn't aware that any were made with a single trigger. I have heard of people doing conversions, but some are not safe. Don't ask me why, because I haven't got a clue.

'Boo that is a nice rifle. I don't think I have ever seen one "in the flesh".

I wonder how I could tell if mine is origonal furniture then. It has the proper plate covering the trigger hole in the stock. It has the military style dual stage trigger and it is awful. I don't want to hog out the stock for an aftermarket trigger.
Had an old trigger that I honed to the same contour as my Husky Crown grade and it helped somewhat. Still drags like a day at the mall with your shopping frenzied wife. sigh.

Ted, I honed off the first stage so all the long travel is gone.
The second stage seems to start moving nicely but it drags in one spot. I honed and polished both mating surfaces so they are as square and true as I can get them.
Sure would be nice to clean it up some but I am not real confident in doing this kind of permanent massaging myself.

I'll get some pictures together of mine and you can compare it to yours. Ted, I owe you some pics too!

Dragoon, I am still in the frays of developing some loads too but my stash consists of H414 and IMR4350. Once I get something that seems to work I will post the outcome. Have been getting alot of pm's regarding this. I am hoping to come up with some 140gr, 154gr and 175gr loads. Might not be for a month or so but stay tuned.

Cheers,
Noel

What are you talking about? What avatar?
The one of "xcaribooer" but it's gone now.
I was wondering if this new chap is someone that was a Cariboo "Regular" member from the past who went by a different name, who just up and disappeared ?

Brno 21H

I have two of the Brno 21H's but one is about 3" longer than the other. One was built in 49 (the short one), and the other in 50. They are both in 7X57 because I like the caliber. I have sold the other 8X57's and kept the Brno rings and bases for my 7mm's. I would like to have one rebuilt and reblued, because there is quite a bit of wear on my 49 but the 50 is in VG to Excellent condition. Does anyone know how to get varnish off stocks? A previous owner has varnished the stocks and partially filled the checkering in with the stuff. I really dislike people screwing with quality guns. The one thing that really P&##@s me off is some one rounded the bolt handle off next to the bolt body right where it bends. I have about 12 or 14 7X57's and as you can tell I am really really in love with them. I would like to see a Husky 7X57 I don't believe I have had the pleasure of handling one.

Now you know I have a mistress and it's a 7X57. Don't for God sake tell my wife.

I've had 3 21H's and they were all the same length. I assume you are talking about barrel length.
I have used circa 1850 to remove stuborn finishes. It takes some time and elbow grease. Don't be shy with the stuff, slap it on thick. I used an old toothbrush to get to the checkering.

There used to be a real scab-butcher- refinisher that used to pedal his stuff at the easter gun show in Calgary, haven't seen him for 10 years or so. One of his specialtys was scab refinishing old Brno's and trying to sell them for as new. Y ou might have one or more of his creations.

Think he was from Kelowna, also specialised in commeratives. I have heard he now has an antique store.

rear sight base

In my opinion the Brno 21H is one of the best mountain rifle type bolt actions made. You get amazing quality and features that are not available today...unless you go the custom route. You get a double square bridge mauser action, one standing and one folding leaf rear sight, rear sight base and barrel are machined out of one piece of steel, double set triggers (some might not like this, but I do), barrel band and so forth. I was just checking out my little Brno 21H and took it apart to weigh it.

Stock.....1lb 8oz (keep in mind that this is wood!)
Barreled action with all the screws/bolts ...4lbs 11.5oz

Total - 6lbs 3.5oz (just under 6 1/4lbs)

This is my 3rd 21H and I kick myself for selling the other two.

Who else has some old lightweight rifles, and what do they weigh?

No the rear sight base is not part of the barrel, it is part of a fitted sleeve.
Regards, J Stuart.
