lightweight gun - kimber montana vs custom build

Your scale is lying, everyone knows only a Montana can be that light...:p

Your Hunter's EDGE is lighter than his MR pattern, and your barrel has a bigger bore...:D
What powder are you using with those?

i used the Rem M7 pattern, it's a pretty light stock, even with the 1" decelerator. using Varget, 2grs under barnes book max with norma brass and BR primers. they're a little flatter then I like, but extraction is super smooth, so not going to worry about it.

i just weighed my Ruger 77/44 with an M8 4x and warne QR rings... 6.5lbs! might have to take that for the Bearded Ones some day.

UPDATE. SPOT msg from my grandson, the ALL POWERFUL TOD BARTELL: Goat Down! that .260 of his finally gets some use! :p

Good news! Tell him congrats when you talk to him. That makes the lightweight builds worth it right there! :D

But wait...wasn't there just a thread about anything under .300 magnum being "underpowered for the heavily boned and muscled Mountain Goats"?? Amphib, I think you're mistaken with what he brought...

Archie, Why is yours so much heavier? bartell slipped some lead in your scope before he mailed it? ;) silly .260 users. just worked up a load with 130gr ttsx, puts 3 in 1" at 3000fps

Thanks for posting the pic. Factory barrel or aftermarket?
Lose the flip-ups and you'd be hovering on five fo' sho! :D

His scale is bang-on I'm sure, and that's one wispy rifle.
"Everyone" knows a Montana will weigh the same off the shelf with a full-length barrel. :p
Will the Kimber be as reliable as a late model Remington? With Remingtons recent track record for QC I believe that's only marginally debatable these days.
I will say that the Model 7 will probably outshoot the 84M in most cases...even though Kimber cuts their so called "match-chamber"!

So on Remingtons so far I am 5 for 5 MOA or better. Kimbers I am 1 for 4. Hmmmmm.

That would explain why your username displays both the words "rem" and "win" ;)

Of the four Kimbers I've owned (three 84M's, one 8400) Two easily shot MOA, one averaged 1.5" and the other I couldn't get any consistency due to light primer strikes. All with handloads of course.

I'm just yankin' your chain, they are both good rifles, if they work like they are supposed to.;):p

Never found much need for more than 20" with a .308. The stainless M7 are harder to come by these days, as they haven't made them in 4-5 years, so that weighs in on the debate as well.

hit the wrong button on my SPOT when I had it on, in my pack :D

no ghoat

however, my inaccurate 6 lb Remington *was* a joy to pack :)
