Hi All,

I am looking into getting a new lightweight hunting rifle and am curious as to what your suggestions would be. Currently looking at kimber's lineup of rifles, however, I am aware that some people have had issues with them and their customer service can be a nightmare to deal with. Any input would be very helpful! Thanks.

Kimbers are great. Usually the only problem with them is they need a good bedding job done before even shooting them. Then you just lighten up the trigger to your liking and you should have a great shooter.
Both my 6.5 creedmoor and 280ai had bedding jobs and it fixed the inconsistency in my groups. Both guns shoot tiny groups now with my hand loads.

my buget is up to $3000. I am hoping for around the 5 to 7 pound range. This rifle will be used primarily for sheep hunts but will also end up bringing it on mule deer hunts as well. thanks guys, will check out your suggestions.

I own an have owned several Kimbers and strongly recommend them.
I also own an have owned a couple of Sako Finnlights and, although slightly heavier, are gorgeous rifles.
(caution: before you buy, I suggest checking Kimbers and Sakos for possible feeding issues and ejection issues, respectively)

My preference in a lightweight is a rifle chambered for a round with a recoil that is balanced by the rifle's weight (for example, 7mm08).

Be aware that a lightweight might require many hours at the range to learn how to shoot it accurately (it is usually an acquired skill).
And, because lightweight barrels tend to be thinner, they typically heat up faster ...
... so firing several rounds in quick succession might not provide a true indication of the rifle's accuracy.

Caveats aside, once you get used to a lightweight, you probably won't go back to heavier rifles. They are a joy to carry and own.

Cheers,

-Dennis

I like my kimber's, I've had good luck with them. Another rifle worth checking out is a Barrett Fieldcraft, Precision Optics in Quesnel BC are a dealer and are great to deal with.

There is a remington titanium 7mm-08 on the EE with a leupold compact for 2000.Mine weights under 6.25 pounds. And you could put a wildcat stock on it if you want it lighter.

What’s your price point, what’s your goal with it? What are you hunting.

You’ll not want to carry your big pigs anymore once you get an ultralight
Kimbers are purpose built backpacking guns.
Sakos are very nice guns but won’t be as light as a Kimber per say.
Your budget will dictate a lot

aint that truth, alotta guys buy them to be an all round gun.... which i dont believe they are an all day every day Go-To rifle, I love mine but its proberly more for specific hunts with heavy packs or long walks etc
ive been shootin a Savage edge this arvo, they really arnt 'heavy' at all, feel quite light but give the stability the ultra lights dont. imo.
between it an my marlin, that weights comfortable for all day general hunts.

Tikka is light enough also.
