with Pachmeyer recoil pad , $1050.00 hydrodipped which on a super light will get you into a 5.5 pound rifle for approx 2K new , Now if you can do your own work bedding and painting etc you can knock about 475.00 off that price and sell the walnut stock off that one for another $2-300.00 and your about $1300.00 for a new gun @ 5.5 pound gun.

The thing I like about a Montana 84L or M/A 84L is you get a 24" barrel. Having a full sized rifle chambered in 270 win or a 280 AI at around 5lb 3oz (for a M/A) is impressive. A nice setup for hunting Mule Deer in open country. My go to rifle is a M/A 270 win with a Swarovski Z3 with the BRH reticle, I haven't weighed it with the scope on, I don't feel the need to, it's light. Having a light rifle thats capable of reaching out long range is kinda nice IMO. ;0

I used to think the same but after hiking all day with a Montana and loading once and unloading once, I will take the light weight rifle every time. A blind mag doesn't bother me a bit.

Its interesting all the lightweight rifle threads that come up. If anyone has something they want added to the list that is a reasonable option I will, did not list the 7mm RM and 300WM options available, as they are less in demand.
I'm editing the pics above as I find mistakes/clarity.
The weight of mine, in .30/06, was spot on at 6 lbs 6 oz. Scoping it added about a pound, but that would depend on your choice of glass.

Did this experiment years ago. There's no significantly measurable weight difference when you consider the steel escutcheon under the front screw, the slightly deeper ADL mag box and the extra screw in the trigger guard.
We figured this out years ago when putting BDL bottom metal in the original Ti rifles.
I was looking for a "lighter-weight" rifle for backpack hunting and ended up with a sako a7 in .270. I think it's a pretty good candidate for the spreadsheet.
I was looking at kimber hunters but didn't see any in the price range mentioned in this thread or I would have gotten one for sure. The sako was just a good deal so I didn't pass it up.
I order some talley one piece ring and bases for it, for now it has a leupold vx-freedom 3-9 on it that I had around, but I'm interested in getting something lighter possibly 2-7 or 2.5-8. Very open to suggestion on that.
