Just spent the majority of the last 48 hours carrying this sweetheart around... but she weighs in at a whopping 9lbs! Pretty heavy rifle for the diminutive 7mm08! Excellent cartridge, dropped my deer in his tracks at 70 yards :)

Anyone have any ideas or options for a lightweight stock for her? I don't want to switch up my rifle, I've fallen in love with it, but she's obese.

Cheers lads,

Trev

Not worth it IMO. You’ll spend a bunch of money to save a few ounces.

Smaller scope, lose the caps and the leather adornments.

Nice deer, good shooting!

If it were mine, I'd carry a lightweight sling in my pocket and get a smaller scope to start.

I understand the gift from your wife staying on the rifle, but I'd at least try it with out it.

After that, I'd get a Wildcat stock for it.

OP, how much time have you spent carrying the rifle? If this was the first real stretch then it will seem like a lot of weight, the more you carry it around the easier it will get. I spent 3-4 seasons lugging a No.4 LE around, bugger is 10lbs with ammo iirc. After the first full season I hardly noticed it.

A synthetic stock will lighten it up a fair bit but it won’t make it as easy on the eyes.
