lightweight rifle for a leftie

Model 70 Shadow series are offered in left hand models, at least they were not that long ago. A friend also bought a stainless synthetic A-Bolt in southpaw not long ago.

This thread couldn't of been opened at a better time. I'm looking for the exact same thing as the OP but mine is a for a very light and handy walking rifle. I'm not partial to any brand really or caliber although short action preferred. I've looked into some builds and the like. My budget for rifle alone without optics can't exceed $2700. So if anyone who has viewed this thread or the op ends up coming up with something "interesting" please shoot me a PM.

Phil I've gone this route with custom rifles I built or had built. All were Remy actions which I love by the way. All had blind floor plates to reduce weight. Unfortunately after having both knees replaced I sold them as I am unable to walk far and now prefer the drop floor plate because I am loading /unloading several tines a day. The Forbes rifle was made in left hand and Clay had a few as such but no longer. He may be able to find you one as they are not long out of production. There are several custom makers of light rifles in the US but they are pricey as is having Corlanes build you one. Your best bet is a left hand Rem action and have Dennis put a light barrel on it and use a wildcat sling. The Ruger action is in my opinion too heavy to start a light rifle.
Keep an eye on EE for one comes up once in a while.

Not sure why Tikka is out of the question for everyone else.....my left handed best friend has a Stainless LH T3 Lite in .308 and loves his.

You have one helluva budget to work with there.... You could get a T3 and an aftermarket carbon fiber stock for a total cost of about 1900$, and then you'd have another 800$ to spend on glass....

If everyone else wants a non-detachable magazine, could you just superglue a T3 mag in place??? ;)

Tikka is actually my first choice. :)

They are as rare as hen's teeth but you can get a Ruger compact M77 Hawkeye in synthetic stainless left hand...

As far as I know, this has never existed. Ruger would not make a LH mould for synthetic stocks to do a limited run. Although Winchester sold a handful of LH synthetic stocked rifles.

i am all ears and listening.

a lh70 in sa action i had a 300 wsm that i sold a few years ago, still have a fwt stock that was supposed to go on a 350 rem mag from mrc action.

so why not a mrc action or even the complete rifle but they are little on the heavy side, no?

yep seems another option can be a rem700 Sa ... not my best choice but seems it may be a good option.

The MRC stock is a clubby 30 oz's to start with. Yikes! But, you could order a fwt barrelled action from them, add a lighter stock (McMillan compact EDGE) and aluminum bottom metal (PT&G) and come in with a rifle that is close to albs scoped. But it will be pricey.

If I was doing something light it would be on a SA LH Remington 700. It would wear a diminutive 21" barrel and a converted 17 oz wildcat stock with aluminum bottom metal or a blind magazine. You could probably do this if you were careful for less than $1500 and possibly less than $1000. It won't be pretty, but it will be lightish. :)

I worked at WSS for quite a few years after retiring and tried to get one. As far as I could tell they only ever listed them in the 9 lug configuration.

a remington short action, stainless mountain rifle take off barrel, dropped into a wildcat model 7 pattern stock. Will be just over 5lbs.
