lightweight scope and ringo combo for Model 70 Featherweight?

Extra low talleys and a Leupold 3.5-10x40. It’s a much nicer scope then a 2.5-8 IMO.

I meant to grab ones of these when they were avail. I'll have to keep an eye open for one on the EE now.

As for the OPs question, I'm using a Leupold VX III 3.5-10x40 with lightweight Talley Lows atop a Rem 700 Mountain

Perfect! ........ I have that Leupold combo on a 257Roberts and this 2-7 Redfield on a 308.

The Redfield Revolution is a very good deal on the used market. Nice scopes and light. The one in the pic I sold to a guy and bought it back after regretting the sale.

I have Leupolds mounted on about 30 rifles. On a couple of my target 22 rimfires, I have 36X Weavers.
I have one Redfield Revolution. [Made by Leupold, decent optics]

I like the VX3i 2.5-8, but because of it's relatively short tube, it is harder to mount on some rifles.
The net result is, most of my hunting rifles now wear that excellent VX3 3.5-10x40. I have 3 fixed
power scopes mounted, all Leupold 4x and 6x glass. I also have a VX5HD on a 270, and it is very,
very good, but considerably pricier.

Over the years, the need for Leuoold's excellent warranty has been rarely tapped in to.

I have an acquaintance who has shook 2 Vortex scopes loose on his 375 Ruger. [Not sure which model
Vortex ,but their warranty is good] He is using Leupold now, and so far, so good.

I see no reason to change brands, since Leupolds have been very reliable. The optical clarity is
plenty clear for hunting optics. I always recommend this glass when asked for suggestions. Dave.

I bought my first rifle in about 1984. A Winchester model 70 featherweight in 30-06 with a 3-9x40 leupold in dual dovetail rings. Many have come and gone since but few have actually done much meaningfully differently or looked more classy doing it. The featherweights are the wrong platform to worry about lightweight but unless horribly overscoped I find them just rightweight.

The 3.5-10 is also a great scope. While not much difference, I do prefer the lower 2.5 power when I'm in some of the super dense areas I hunt.

The length of the 2.5-8 is an issue sometimes.

I'm trying to decide which low power scope and rings to top off my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight. I would like to keep the weight down as much as possible as this is my lightweight hunting rig. I'm aiming to keep the scope and rings under 1 pound if possible.

Interested in 2-7, 3-9 or maybe something less. Ideal hunting will be 300m and under.

Budget under $1000.

What options should I consider?

I would go with Talleys holding the Leupold VX3 HD 3.5-10x40, great scope for the situation you describe, you will be at about 15oz with this set up.

I have a tikka t3x lite stainless .223 rem.
Paired with Talley low rings and Vortex viper 3-9x40mm.
Super nice looking and balanced, lightweight hunting rifle.

I wouldn’t go that far but they aren’t my favourite

I’ve had a Vari-X 3 2.5-8 for 35 years now. Started its life on a 340Wby, then a 338WM, been on a 22lr I used to use for driving tacks and has found its home on a M70 FTW in 7-08. It’s always been rock solid and reliable, like an old Volvo. I think it’s the perfect size, weight and power range for this rifle. It’s gloss finish matches the M70 as well; it’s just right. Has some battle scars from the heavy kickers, but that’s the way the old girl should be after this many years. So do my wife and I, and we’d never trade each other in after so many years of just always being there for each other.

Leupolds are my scope of choice. I’ve bought a few others over the years and will keep them. They’re the right combination of price, weight and reliability for me. Not ###y, but I like ‘em.

To the OP, I think a 2.5-8 (if you can find one), or a 2-7x33 would be a fine fit for your rifle and intentions.

And I think a pic rail on such a classic firearm is an abomination, FWIW.
