"Like New" Yugo M48 Mausers?

Google p&s militaria. The owner posts here under user name "jp". Not sure if he's a sponsor or not. Top seller though. Buy with confidence.

Wow I just checked these out and the prices have really jumped since I bought one from that small batch Marstar brought in during 2012. I paid 325 plus another 25 for hand select and it came with a bayo.

Also for the op, these rifles are large ring M98's just like the Czech Vz-24's and are built "like a tank" as well. Basically the same rifles, only not finished as nicely as the Vz-24's were originally. Strength and durability wise I doubt there is much difference.

Another difference is Yugo M48's are intermediate length actions, while VZ24's are full length 98 actions. The bolts, stocks, etc. are not interchangeable as they are different lengths.

Being objective as I can be and having owned both original matching vz. 24s and M48s the vz is a much, much nicer rifle when comparing originals.

For a shooter grade rifle like these seem to be, I'd still rather have a nice $500 Yugo capture K98. I always found the Yugo 48 series to be some of the roughest Mausers ever produced and eventually sell them off.
The longest I owned one was a nice shooter grade 24/47, it was also pretty rough but shot very well. I don't think I'd buy another Yugo military Mauser, but definitely would get another $700 Zastava M70/M98 new production rifle.

^ I agree with you. I used to have most of them. M48, M48A, M48B, M48BO, M24/47. All in pretty much "like new condition" but as nice as they are to look at they are pretty far from Czech or German quality and I sold them all and have no regrets.

I have a shooter grade M48 and although I haven't shot it yet, the bolt is silky smooth and it oozes confidence. Some bluing wear but the bore is pristine.

I have shot my VZ24 and I'm impressed with it. Sights are a little tough to pick up with my old eyes (notch is tiny) and the bolt is a little tougher (might just need to lube it better or maybe because it's a straight bolt), but man does it feel good and that walnut tiger stripe stock is awesome. Bluing is like new, bore is excellent and it shoots great.

All things being equal, I'd rather have a nice m48 series than an RC k98. Some m98 yugo rebuilds if k98's are nice, but some are pretty rough.

Vz's are great, but heavy and as a lefty I hate that grip swivel.

I don't mean to derail this thread but I have one question.

I've been looking at getting a Mauser or two. There seems to be all kinds like Yugos, Czech, etc,

What would be the closest thing to a German made K98k?

Yugo M98 / K98 capture, they're around.
Russian K98 capture, they're around.
Actual German K98, mismatched, they're around.

Post a WTB in the EE and go to the gun shows.

Yugo Capture K98, or Russian Capture K98....genuine German made K98 that has been scrubbed/refurbed/mixed to some extent.
Tradex has 3 YC left.

I'd rather hand pick a VZ24 or M48 rather than pick from the choice that's left at TradeEx for the M98's, just my .02. All the nice ones have been picked over and the mediocre ones are left. Cracked stock, dark bore, missing sight blade, bent cleaning rod, etc. Nothing that good is left there for $495 unless you are looking for a shooter grade or have spare parts laying around. I've read that some got real gems from that M98 batch, but they're long gone.

Russian Capture K98's are at my local CT, but they're $779 and not in that great of shape. Yugo and Czech versions are still bargains.

These 'excellent condition' Yugo's are really nice.

So I just received my Yugo Mauser today. I had specifically requested an M 48, because I liked the cleaner and more finished look of the milled parts. Tradex delivered on my request, and I really appreciate it! The rifle is in a nice elm wood stock. The numbers all match, and the serial number is on the stock of the rifle as well. I would definitely say that this rifle is NOT unissued, however it is in excellent shape. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the receiver has a deep plum colour to it, which from my understanding is due to the refurbishment process. There are also a few minor nicks in the stock and some scuffing on the butt plate. The transparent looking line on the butt is just some plastic wrap, not a large dent haha. That being said though, it is in awesome shape and I am more than happy with it even though its probably been refurbished at some time. It makes me wonder where, when and to whom this rifle may have been issued!

I'm looking forward to seeing what other peoples rifles look like. Now I just need a bayonet, some strippers clips and some 8x57 reloading dies

Mint!

Very impressed. It has a little newspaper stuck to the cosmo and it's greasy as hell - but it's mint. Bolt/receiver/magazine/stock all have matching #'s, stock is really nice and dark, rifle looks gorgeous. Not the best pics, but I'm really happy with my purchase. This was a "Do you trust me Weimajack handpick" and I must say, it's awesome. Just got it and didn't clean out the bore yet, but I'm sure it's just as minty as the rest. Sling looks near new and the ammo pouches are in great shape. Unlike many other surplus M48's, the cleaning rod and sight hood are intact. The one I got from CT came with nothing.

Now I have a cleaning job to do

I received mine from Tradex. They shipped an M48A model all matching in what I would consider Very Good, FTR condition, not the Excellent as described. The Sling and mag pouches sent are in good used shape.
Now, it must be said too that in all likelyhood it is possible for my expectations of a Yugoslavian manufactured Mauser from the communist era to be higher than what was produced in the factory, so that could very well explain the discrepancy in grading.

I can certainly see why some would prefer the German crafted rifles.

Overall I'd say I'm satisfied.

Any pics?

The cosmo on mine is like an entity to itself... yuck. But, it did it's job very well
