i personally think it will go the way other stuff has gone in the past. liberals bring new rules in, conservatives slightly loosen, but not completely, those new rules. then liberals get again and bring in more new rules....the whole time pushing the can down the road towards total civilian disarmament. Conservatives aren't dumb, they know the political hot potato of gun control can be a winning and losing point in public opinion. they will also benefit from the liberals work if they are in power when the government feels they have to act heavily on the population for whatever reason - be it another pandemic, war, social unrest - insert perceived need.
I also think that major events are merely times to capitalize - ie: portapique - the dust hadn't settled and the bans were on the way, why? because the principle was already written - they just needed something to happen (which it will invariably), then they hit the execute button. I just think the nitty gritty gets hashed out shortly before. hence the G4 amendment.
The whole while - gun owners are on the roller coaster ride and they rely on a few here and there to say "screw it" i'm done riding the roller coaster and they decide to get off. I have personally seen it happen more than once.
so ya - something will loosen, what? who knows. my guess - OIC stays put, MAYBE allowing use happens - ie take AR to range - much like 12(6) handguns. MAYBE handgun transfer ban over turns.
