Li'l gun and cast bullets

Heard that it's a hot powder just have plain base bullet barn bullets just worries about it leading up my sp101 too quickly

I load 16gr Lil'Gun with 158gr GCSWC's; don't think I'd try it with plain-base bullets, for the leading issue. Can't get-at my loaddata at the moment - when I can, I'll look-up the velocities with this load.

You should be able to load-down Lil'gun a bit to lower the velocity; my current 'hot' 44 load is 2.5 - 4.7gr down from Hodgdon load data for my bullet weight.

It really doesn't matter what gun or caliber it is. As long you do your job and respect the reloading features for a specific round you'll be ok. Read the reloading data, don't improvise if you're not an experienced reloader and measure everything (twice). I bet you will love your cast reloads.
Have fun.

sounds like a really light load, i bought some lil gun to play with, usually load with w296 or w231, its gonna be a lazy sunday so gonna make a bunch of test loads

My mistake, I only used Lil Gun with jacketed bullets in the 357mag. I used Trailboss with the cast bullets and 38spl cases.

I load 16gr of lilgun under a Lee 358-158RF and shoot them out of a 16" Rossi. They are powder coated though. Great load. Have not chrono'd them though. No leading. I also shoot the same charge under a C358-158-RF from an MP mold. It actually weighs around 165gr and I lube them with speed green and homemade aluminum gas checks. No leading either. Lil Gun is my favorite magnum powder by far and I shoot almost exclusively cast bullets.

1,455 fps over my Chrony - really fast, 200 fps faster than factory S&B's. Out of a 6" Dan Wesson.

Seems only freedom arms has this problem.. Heard about it but on most forums no one has actually had the "problem" if I noticed forcing cone problems or flame cutting I will stop although in 20 years and thousands of rounds out of my gp 100 have never seen flame cutting either

yours must be special
I noticed (upper strap) flame cutting after only 3000 rounds (GP100 as well)
No Lil'gun used though

I've heard blue dot is known to cause flame cutting.. I used to use 2400 all the time ran out a year ago.. Have not been able to find any since

16gr li'l gun with a plain base 158 sec seems to work good. No leading issues but don't think I'll push them any faster

Currently trying L'il Gun in a load using 204 grain flat nose GC hard cast. Using 38 spl brass as seating depth is determined by chamber depth in my NM Blackhawk 357 Mag. One thing I have noticed with this powder is it likes a good start pressure which a firm crimp provides. Without the crimp FPS actually drops with more powder and FPS SD increases. So far I am up to 11.5 grains and getting an avg around 1000 FPS. Accuracy is not great, recoil crisp and powder not as dirty as I suspected. Just a note. This is a 357 magnum load not a 38 spl. I wouldn't use it in any revolver not designed to take magnum loads.

I have a habit giving 357 loads heavy crimp, did you cast your 204gr bullets yourself? Looking for heavy cast bullets to play with best I found so far is bullet barn 180gr
