Hey guys, I was getting lined up to buy a Boyd stock for my savage model 16 and went against my better judgement measured my action screws just to be safe (rare for me) and I get 4-1/4", Boyd's stock is 4-7/16". Do I have other options for a decent stock or am I stuck with the ugly plastic one?

use a pair of calipers, I am willing to bet you have a 4.4 inch action screw spacing, which boyds does make a stock for

Yeah, I used calipers because I didn't believe my measurement with the tape. It's 4 1/4", pretty positive, give or take a couple thou. My rifle is a short action, 7wsm.

internal mag or detachable? any stock for a savage 4.4 inch hole spacing will fit your rifle
you may have to go under the name of stevens to find one in the drop down chart

should also note that if the magazine is attatched to the receiver or if it is in the stock, that will be a factory in which stock to order. If your really confused send me a PM

Yours is not the newer 4.4" centerfeed Savage. Yours is the staggered feed like mine and it is 4.27" spacing. You must order a stock for the stagger feed rifle or she ain't gonna fit.

Will a serial ## help you fellers out helping me?

nope, if the mag is stuck to the action then you have a 4.27 inch action screw spacing, top bolt release short action........

what stock are you looking at? I'll send you either a link for the one that fits your rifle or a part number

you looking for the

FEATHERWEIGHT THUMBHOLE SAVAGE 10 TOP BOLT RELEASE BLIND MAG SHORT ACTION STAGGERED FEED FACTORY BARREL CHANNEL

Oh the model 10 and my odd 16 are one in the same?

double digits represent short actions, 10-12-16 and triple digits are long actions 110-112-116............for any other reason they are one of the same in regards to action length and hole spacing.

Yes, unlike Remington with the 700 Savage numbers all their models different but they all use the same action. The 10, 11, 12, 14 and 16 are all the same short action. You just have to figure out what your screw spacing is and order away.

Edit, yodave beat me to it

stagger feed, magazine well attached to the receiver.........4.27 inch action screw spaing
single feed, magazine stays in the stock and is not attached to the receiver.......4.40 inch action screw spacing

that is the rule of thumb and works for all short action numbers, 10-11-12-16.........so when you take the action out of the stock you should know if it is 4.4 or 4.27, but always double check with a caliper as savage did do some strange things during the change over.
