Buddy is selling his rifle and says it wears a Lilja barrel. There are no stamps or marks on the barrel to indicate that. I am wondering if any guys here can tell me if their Lilja barrels are ID'd to indicate that?

Thanks,
hf

Barrels are usually marked at the end of the shank which is machined off during fitting. If you don't trust you buddy and he doesn't have the receipt for the barrel then you would have to pass on the rifle I guess.

There will be no identifying marks, as barrels are end stamped on the chamber end and this is removed in fitting. An easy way to identify it will be to bring your caliper from your reloading bench, a tape measure, and a print out of Lilja's barrel contours. From that you'll be able to measure the diameters at the appropriate points and see if it matches a Lilja contour. If he bought a straight blank and had someone else contour it, you have to take his word for it.

Since you are the buyer you are entitled to ask as many questions as you want. Perhaps a gunsmith might give you an opinion. The barrel may have a gunsmith's stamp. If there is any doubt in your mind then walk away rather than harboring that doubt for as long as you are the owner.
Ask the seller if he subscribes to CGN and if he doesn't there will be lots of opinions. Cost might be a huge indicator. Number of rounds, gunsmith's costs for the barrel and installation are also clues.

I would also be concerned on how well it was chambered and fitted and the condition of the throat... as much as the maker of the barrel...
