I have put in for a moose draw for 22 years in 4 05 and for 22 years I am unsuccessful again . I have a friend who put in the same area for the last 5 years and he has been drawn 3 times and another who has been drawn 2 years in a row . DISHEARTING and I guess I will have to try again next year sometimes I would like to see the system take another avenue say like alberta where there is some point system reason being I sure had a great time hunting muleys there knowing that in every four years at least I would know that I will be able to hunt . PLEASE GIVE ME SOME FEED BACK AND OPINIONS THAT YOU HAVE THANXS and happy hunting:)

Bigben, no worries man, I have a hunting partner that didn't get a single draw for 12 years, he has nailed 3 in the past 2 years. It will turn around for you.
 
i think the hunters in BC need to get together and get the gov't to switch to the same system Alberta has. I grew up in BC... the draw system sucks....

I did manage to get 1 moose draw... in about 10 years of applying ( never saw a moose in that season).. I never got a doe draw either. .. nothing...

There are various reasons why the 'points' systems won't work in BC, there was an extensive article in BC Outdoors a few years ago...

Basiclaly, if you started applying for some tags when you were 17, you woudl get one when you were 65:p
 
It would be fairer than what is happening now... some are getting repetitive draws in areas where others are getting nothing and that is his point...with which I agree. I would rather go on a list and keep submitting knowing that I will eventually be on the top than a lottery that has supposed "reduced odds", if you have been drawn, for three years. In these cases I know of individuals who have drawn back to back years with reduced odds where others have been submitting for 20 + years and receiving the "unfortunately" notice.
We've been conditioned to believe that this is the only system that will work. I believe that there are other options.. IE: list draw. Name at the top gets the leh.. goes to the bottom, success or not, and waits til his name goes to the top. If you drop from the list you go to the bottom. I might die 10 from the top, but at least I would know I got that far!

It's pretty clear that for some weird reason some numbers get drawn more than others. Even the big 649 lotto history suggests this. I would think it only faire that if you put in on a draw that has 10:1 odds, you should be guarantee'd a draw within that span, instead of seeing others getting the same draw multiple times.
 
It's not supposed to be "by the hunter number". It says that as cards arrive they are assigned a random number between 1 and a billion. The cards that have been assigned successive numbers starting at 1 are given a draw as long as there is an leh available for the area of choice... I suppose you could have your cards assigned 1 to 5....I don't know of any hunters that were given 2nd choice hunts unless the odds were less than 1 to 1. It would be interesting to see how many 2nd choice leh's were allotted.
I would also be interested in the age demographics of the assignments. How many were given to age groups based on 3 categories.
14 to 25 26 to 55 and 56+.
As the hunter population ages and decreases, I wonder if the draw can be manipulated to ensure new hunters are assigned hunts to encourage more youth to take up the sport and the older hunters to stay around longer. I realize that there are already special leh's for those groups but does that carry over to the regular draw.
Probably opening a can of worms here but one has to wonder sometimes.
 
In BC there is an open season somewhere in the province for all big game with the exception of Bison and Grizzly.

I view the LEH draws as "convenience" tags in that you may draw a highly desired animal close to home.

Wrong....

You have to put "indian" where you would put your hunter number and still get authorization since some of the LEH hunts are during closed season or in park boundries. The cards get drawn via a random number that is assigned to each cards serial no.
 
BC LEH sucks

System in this province does not even try to be fair. Spent some time reading the Alberta govt. site and it does sound a lot more fair to me. Maybe I will have to move out there when retirement comes around. I like to hunt but just not getting the opportunity. Slang

In BC you can shoot 3 deer (18 if you want to visit QCI) a moose, a caribou, an elk, 2 black bear as well as sheep and a mountain goat all with over-the-counter tags. Where do you see you are not getting the "opportunity" to hunt?
