Limited to 1 action (short and long versions) what would you choose??

I'm with you except I'd use the Classic actions for the original trigger which I feel is superior to the new one due to its simplicity.

If money was no problem I would as well but Ive never seen a pre 64 for mush under $1000. Thats a little high for something that could be worn out and need a new barrel.

I have kinda gone the streamlined route... most of my guns are Rugers... M77 MKII AW's or Ruger No.1's... if "push came to shove," the No.1's would be the last to go... I like their simplicity and elegance... one shot is all I need, gun or bow. I currently have a fairly complete cartridge range in my No.1's; .223, .243, 6.5X55, 7X57, 9.3X74R & .45/70... I am still after two more...

My M77's are in; .223, .243, .260, .308, .338 Fed, .358 Win, .350 Rem Mag, .44 Rem Mag, .22 WMR and .17 HM2... still looking for one more.
Don’t miss the 416 Rigby.

My go to rifle is a 1979 Rem 700LA with a wildcat stock, Magpul detachable magazine in 280 Rem which is on it's 8th barrel . Short actions have some small advantages in weight and quickness but the long action seems more versatile. (I have a Rem 700 short action in 7-08 that is a joy to carry.)

Tikka T3X for or a few reasons.

1. They come in left hand.
2. You can get factory options with heavy barrels.
3. Trigger adjustment is a simple spring.
4. One action length to go from long to short. (Put a long bolt stop in all of them.)
5. Switching barrels is a breeze with the correct tools and makes changing cartridges super easy and cheap with factory barrels.
6. Lots of aftermarket support for the things I’m looking for.
7. Lots of factory configurations and opens from ACE to Superlites.
8. The bolt is truly buttery smooth.

I’m sure I could find more reasons but those are the easy ones.
