Limiting Amount of Ammo Purchase

My go to stores have no limits. I use 10k of shotshells per year at skeet and sporting clays, so I am not going to make 20 trips to buy the shotshells and components that I need for a year of shooting.

Past experience for us is that most volume shotgun shooters/clubs who buy multiple flats (sometime skids)of 12 gauge at a time will usually by pass us because we can't give them a discount that would match what they get when they buy direct from the distributor/manufacturer. We learned that from the beginning of our business that the volume sales of competition shotgun ammo would not be possible because for the most part their ability to bulk buy for the many shooters in the club directly at very close to our wholesale cost and in some cases they were paying the same price as we did. We have tried to go after that business with little success in the past. We can't keep everyone happy all the time but we are aware of the problems and try to do what we can. Phil.

I would sell at much higher volumes. I would not buy and ship without high volume.
PS hope your WORD form is protected because .doc forms can spread stuff.

Anyway your process is to archaic for me. I trust you have customers that like to talk on a phone or visit a store.

I can also see both sides.
You want to make sure your customers get some supplies, while you do not want a reseller to buy all your stock to sell at higher prices to your customers.

I think 2 bricks of primers is reasonable, but if I was driving a distance to get some I would want to buy 2 bricks by phone Monday, 2 on Tuesday, and pick up all 6 on Wednesday...

I generally by 22 ammo by the case of 5000. So I would want a case. Or maybe 2

In any event, I understand the issue. And it would not make me stop from buying at a particular store.
One store I was able to get primers from had a 2 brick pp/per day limit.

To me, it is absolutely NO DIFFERENT when Walmart sells butter at 1/2 price with a 4 lb pp/per day limit, if you want to buy more, you pay the full price.

You could do the same thing. Here's the limit pricing and here's the no limit pricing...
Seemed fair enough to me.

Thanks for your concerns about our business but we are trying to resolve a very complicated issue with our point of sale inter acting with our new web site that has not launched yet due to these problems. In the mean time yes we have lots of customers who like to talk on a phone and visit the store. In spite of that we just had our most successful gun show ever and lots of ammo and guns were sold there...hopefully some will be left to complete the sales in the store itself. Phil.

I refuse to shop anywhere that limits purchases, you are in business to sell and as a consumer I should be able to buy what I want period. As a business why limit or refuse to sell to a paying customer in hopes someone else may buy it?

LOL! Wholesale Sports in Edmonton! I went in looking for two whole sets of the same scope rings, and the #### behind the gun counter tells me "If I sell you both sets, I won't have any for Customers!" As if I wasn't one.

I got them cheaper elsewhere, and didn't feel too bad when they went Tango Uniform, aka TU, tits-up!

If someone wants, and will pay, that is the person they go to!

Yeah it's one of those things where I don't think there's an exact straight answer that will satisfy everyone. I think no matter what decision was made, there will be people upset.

Reminds me of a couple of years ago, how toilet paper and cleaning supplies were being horded, and to a degree for those who wear masks, masks were as well. It was annoying to go to Costco and find out they are totally out of toilet paper, only to find people hawking toilet paper at a premium on Kijiji. But that said, free enterprise, which I support, allows for this type of thing with people lining up at 6AM in front of stores with their relatives to get their limit of 1 pack of toilet paper. Some kept it, some resold it. No different than the video card shortage, supply and demand. There were people buying the whole store's stock of certain models and reselling but to be honest, this phenomenon has taken place for generations - I remember as a kid collectors and resellers would buy up toys and action figures this way. One can argue not fair to the kid who wanted an Optimus Prime for Christmas but someone bought them all.

I guess ultimately we each decide our tolerances. If they limit 6 cans of soup or 6 cans of anything, maybe not worth it, but if it is 24 cans that may be more palatable.

The store operator should do what he/she thinks is reasonable. I don’t feel very sorry for the ones who stop by the gun shop to buy their one box of ammo on the way to the range. I keep plenty of ammo and components on hand, most, if not all purchased long before shortages came plague us.

I stocked up on cheap ammo recently and was glad that I could. I bought 5000 rounds of 22 lr and 2000 rounds of various shotgun shells with never a restriction. To be honest I don't have a problem with reasonable limits placed on buying ammo and the fact that someone would come on a public forum and ask peoples opinions suggests that they are a thoughtful business owner. Do as you see fit. You know a lot more about retail than the keyboard warriors.

I agree, the fact that Phil is reaching out in an effort to go above and beyond his own interests says it all!

I will fully support any decision made by P&D

+1. The fact that Phil comes on the site and provides helpful support and information for both new and seasoned gun owners, as well as providing a perspective as a retailer to help provide further colour insofar as current issues, etc. - it says a lot about the man and his character. I am sure he can spend his time in other ways, but again, it shows his moral fiber.

I plan to visit family in Alberta in the next month or so and even have on my calendar time blocked off so I can go to P&D as part of my vacation activities.

WSS was always better than Cabelas. I'd trade Cabelas for WSS any day.
