I'm looking for one of the forward directing blast compensators. It's for a Ruger 5.56 bolt action. It's a bit blasty in an enclosed area for those beside and behind the shooter. What's everyone's recommendation? I've never used one.

Well I want more than a crown protector. I want to direct the blast forward. I’ve seen a few US made ones that seem to do just that on the YouTube machine. :)

TNA does indeed have a bunch!

This one looks intriguing

The Surefire is $185 while the rest are in the $50-$75 range. Is the Surefire so much better than one of the other options?

Whatever it is, it has a freakin awesome name! They should make one laser etched with a dragon's head spewing fire :)

If you get the threaded Warden, no. Save $$$ and get something else.

If you're looking for a QD forward comp, yes.
The ratchet Warden is hard to beat for the money if you own a SF muzzle device that allows you to put it on and remove in seconds.

I thought the same of mine... then i switched to 75 grain handloads and the "angst" went out of the noisy end.

Ahh...No need for the QD feature. Thanks for the info.

I need a lesson here. If these are recoil suppressors does the gas not have to exit towards the shooter? As they can't be noise suppressors in Canada what do they do if they vent gasses forward where the normally go anyway? I just shoot bolt action hunting rifles with recoil that can be managed by a recoil pad.

1. They don't reduce recoil.
2. They don't reduce noise, they just redirect it forwards, away from the shooter. Notice how the pictures all show multiple forward facing ports. Shoot past a decibel meter with one installed, it will read higher than with a bare muzzle.

Kind of talking out loud VS in a cone.

Gasses will radius around when they exit at the crown. (Talking out loud)
Linear comp will somewhat redirect them more forward (Talking in a cone)

Mostly I'm looking for as much redirection of blast forward. Anyone have any opinion on which one would do that the best? Or should I just go for the coolest one?
