Here's a good change from bear threads! Pick your lion defense rifle.

Yeah, looks like Maniwaki, Qc is in the news again...some dude livin down the road apiece managed to get hold of a juvenile lion which has now hit the bush, and the search has commenced.

How's that for somethin to find when you're havin a beer on the back patio at night eh? And people wonder why I want a .416 Rigby.

Supposed to be a rather young one, at least.

Eh, its only 150 lbs. supposedly.

The provincial cops and game wardens are in on the search, and there are helicopters now too...so won't be long now.

Article is already up at the CBC.

A few years back I read the memoirs of an african hunter - I don't recall who offhand - but I do remember his assertion that if he had to go after a lion in close cover, his choice would be a large-bore SxS loaded with buckshot.

Heh heh heh...it's already been dubbed "Steve French" :D

Hopefully it gets tranked and sent to a sanctuary.

Glad the response has been so fast. I was worried a buncha local yahoos would hit the bush to look for it and end up shootin someone.

Whatever rifle I had would be useless, cus I would have dropped it when I was climbing the tree...yuck yuck.

If I could afford a real honest to god lion hunt I would choose a 260 gr AB, and load it as fast as the .375 Ultra would kick it out.

Yes, this is exactly the opposite of my usual heavy bullet, moderate velocity line, but in the case of a cat, their nervous system is apparently susceptible to shock from a high velocity bullet, so I will make an exception in this case.
