Liquid media vs Tracer bullets

Are tracer bullets, not loaded just the bullet, going to be affected by immersion in liquid? Considering cleaning a couple but not I'm sure if it would hurt anything.

From my correspondance with the CFO tracers are illegal for civilian use ... so that may be a reason for the lack of responces.

My thoughts ... it would depend on the liquid ... duration of submerssion ... etc. ie .. liquid draino is not something I would suggest as a liquid.

The best person/entity to answer your question would be the manufacturer of the bullet ... if it was me I would call them and ask for thier opinion.

Just curious ... what makes you feel they need cleaning

Could do without it, just tar and crap. I'd use a tumbler but I have the liquid vibratory unit.

And call manufacturer? US or whichever countries military? Wouldn't now where to start there.

Tracer ammo is not on NRAN's approved ammo list. That being said, you see it all the time in the EE, so if it was a big concern or strictly enforced you certainly wouldn't see it for sale there!

I wouldn't immerse them in any liquid. At best, they would dissolve and you wouldn't have tracers any more. At worse, unless you know the exact composition of both your tracer material and the liquid you are immersing in, you might be creating something hazardous to both equipment and your person.

But maybe I'm just a weeny........

If you're concerned about the black sealant on the bullets, don't. It will not harm your gun. If you just want to clean a few up for display, I would do it by hand myself.

Try using a rad dipped in a solvent and do them that way.
I wouldn't tumble in case the trace compound get's screwed up.
